bonnet insulation

hi

my bonnet insulation is breaking up and falling into the engine compartment can you buy new insulation cheaply to replace it or is it just a matter of removing the old stuff and leaving the insulation off

I'd recommend removing it and leaving it off, seems to make little difference (later cars didn't come with any after all) and you get the benefit of a nicely steaming bonnet when it rains [:D] It is a messy and time consuming job, but worth it to stop getting that black dandruff falling all over the engine bay.

that's the way i was thinking of going seems logical and cheaper than replacing it just been on eBay and its about £80 plus post so if it has no important function ill scrape it off i presume it is glued on so ill need something to get the glue off as well [;)]

I have a red Bonnet in my shed from an S2 (the same one Peter's engine came out of IIRC), it has no foam on the underside. If you want it it's yours. Here's a pic of me collecting it (Phil's other S2 in the background, not the car it came from obviously[8D])

Its different to yours. Series one cars and series two cars (nothing to do with S2) bonnets arent the same.

that had crossed my mind but could not think of any reason why they would be different so thought no more of it..ill get around to taking the insulation off mine when it gets a little warmer

That's a good point 944 man, but for every problem a solution can usually be found. How did Rick fit the 924 turbo bonnet to his '90 turbo? Can that process be reversed?

All 924/944 variants have the same shape bonnet, it'll be the mounting holes that differ. Could be hard, could be easy. I know scraping off the gunk that holds the foam on is hard work

The principal difference is that the firewall/bulkhead is in a different place on a series two car and the internal bonnet bracing is positioned to match this.

And the later car had struts not a prop, and the washer jets are bigger on the later car (but you'd just use the later ones in that case). The important bit is what Simon offered however.

thank you very much for the offer riverside much appreciated that's what forums are all about, sharing [;)] shame it would not fit though

ORIGINAL: Paul Fraser £80 on Ebay? A year so ago got mine from the OPC for about £50. Awful job to do though.
thought it would be but i like working on cars and always get a great feeling of satisfaction that i have done it myself and saved lots of money to fund things i cant do myself like cam belt etc
