On two occasions now ,after a drive, I’ve got home to find my bonnet had popped open and was on the safety catch. The display on the dashboard didn’t come up but when I use the button inside the car to open it then the display immediately flashes up.
Any ideas?

Stephen,

It sounds as though the bonnet latch could be sticking. With the bonnet open try operating the release toggle switch; you should hear the solenoid operating. If it doesn’t or is intermittent then try spraying some lubricant on the mechanism and if that doesn’t cure the problem I’d start looking for an electrical fault at the latch end.

Yes, that is rather odd. Maybe the latch isn’t moving far enough to trigger the micro-switch when you’re driving but it’s still sufficient to release the bonnet?

I still think firstly that you should ensure that the latch is moving freely so that it’s engaging fully rather than hanging-up slightly and allowing the bonnet to release due to vibration when you’re driving.

If your problem is due to electrical gremlins then a PIWIS or equivalent diagnostic check probably is your best course of action.
