I have no bonnet sound deadener pad on my bonnet so do I spend the money on one or not........bonnet sound deanening on Porsche 944 much quieter or not??[8|]

I dont have one either. They are not noisy in my opinion as a turbo induction tends to be quieter than other engine types.

Some have them, some don't [&:] I've never been able to work out which years and which models have it as standard. Neither of mine have it, and lot's of people who do have it take it off. I wouldn't worry about it.

Mine has it, but it is starting to peel away at one corner. I'm only keeping it because it is there. I can't imagine it is that effective at whatever its original function was supposed to be. Supressing sound is a very complicated science and it takes more than a bit of foam to suppress noise. I'm wondering if it was there for insulation rather than sound supression.

I remember reading that Porsche stopped putting sound deadening under the bonnet as after a while it perishes and falls all over the engine. My dads '83 924 has it though and its still fine.

I think Peter Empsons carbon fibre bonnet really ought to have a very thick layer of it, probably a double layer :ROFLMAO:

Lol!

For what it's worth I removed the foam from my old bonnet as it was crumbling and it made no difference to the sound (although it was a lot of work). The only difference is that when it rains when the car is hot you get steam rising off it.

My 944 (1984) has pieces of foam stuck to the bonnet, well one actually, one started to drop so it got removed. The 924S (1986) the sound deadening has started to crumble and fall all over the engine. I get some funny looks when hoovering it out.

Cheers,

I thought it was that the 250bhp Turbos had no foam, whereas older models and Luxes all did. Dunno about S2s "¦

Peter's dead right though"”no foam means that you get heat haze over the bonnet and steam rising in the rain/snow!
