Bonnet struts

Hi all,

Just had some front and rear gas struts sent through from PorscheShop and found them to be far too pressurized...more suited for an SC than a 964. Maybe a rare issue but be careul when pulling that handle for the first time after fitting new struts...nearly busted my bridge spoiler brake light.

PorscheShop did replace them without fuss but offered no reason why they had been sent in the 1st place and no apology....aghh well!

Good fortune

Were your new ones better? If so, they may have just sent you a second-hand old set!

I have been told that Porsche specified just one part for both front and rear at some stage, and this gives the "exciting" behaviour of the engine lid.

BTW, if anyone can tell me how to replace the slightly sagging struts on the front of my car, without removing the fuel tank and air conditioning gear, I'd really like to hear from you!

Hi Alistair,

Thanks for the comments. I don't think you would get away with fitting the same struts to the front and rear ends as they are assembled differently....the fronts have ball-joint type sockets at one end.

I'm assuming your 91 model is the same as mine in terms of bad access to the front struts lower end?? I found out what wives with small hands are for [;)] perfect for reaching the lower part of the socket end...they have small hands and are ideal for reaching them. Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick!! They are awkward but not as tricky as the rear ones!

All the best

Hi Alastair
It's a bit fiddly but I was able to change mine without removing anything else. I think it's just a case of finding someone with small hands!
Good luck

Steve
