Booming exhaust

I have a 98 2.5. I started it up today after not driving it for a week or two and noitced the exhaust note sounds boomy compared to normal.

The boom seems to disappear once the engine reaches about 3000 revs and only happens on acceleration.

It doesn't sound like the exhaust is blowing when I listen at the back of the car, just boomy.

Does this sound familiar? Perhaps a baffle in the silencer broken?

how much to replace the back section assuming thats what is needed?

I noticed that on my '02 986 earlier this year. It probably happens on all cars but any deterioration in the silencer is more noticeable when the exhaust is closer to ear level than on, say, a saloon car.
