Booming from sports exhaust

hi
test drove a 2.5 yesterday with a VERY boomy sports exhaust at around 2500 rpm
menat cruising was unbearable
is this normal?
 
What sport exhaust was it?

The Porsche one should be ok if the valves are working (have to admit to not having experience of it myself, but that's what I understand [8|])
 
Probably best, that doesn't sound right....

On 3.2S with Porsche Sports Exhaust it's good and 'throaty' but not booming. Certainly I've noticed that at 2,500rpm is where I get more of a kick in of sound but not 'booming' or unbearable.
That would be bad as in fifth/sixth 2,5000 rpm tends to be moderate/busy motorway cruising speed
