Boost enhancer

Have just purchased an 89 944 turbo.Have seen advertised a boost enhancer for £99. What is one of these,and does it actually work?
My car is a standard 250 bhp model.

Hi Andy

Had one of these fitted to my car and it really did help.

Holds boost longer to your (probably worn due to age) waste gate.

I have just removed mine due to fitting a Promax Level 2 kit yesterday.

Its now up for grabs so will e mail you.

The boost enhancer blocks the pressure signal to the wastegate until the pre-set pressure so it prevents premature opening of the wastegate. Some have reported 'overboost' problems once they are fitted but i'm not sure if that's due to some other worn out component.

Berg - are you not satisfied with your Level 2 kit? I completed the level 2 kit install a few months ago and apart from a 5mpg drop in fuel consumption i'm pretty happy with it, although it's just wet my appetite for taking things to the next step!

I don't have one!

I am not sure what I have but lemon can confirm it's got a bit more than a standard 250 bhp and less turbo lag.

It is 80 kg lighter than a standard (none sun roof) car, weighed on the same scales (approx. the same amount of fuel)

I have not looked at chips but it still has standard over boost protection.

Car was built for promotion of a track car company in 1990, I have been told that it was 460 bhp (but before anyone kicks off, I don't believe this either). It is possible that it lost a few bits to tone it down for the road, there could possibly be different engine internals, but it's all guessing and I don't intend to look at the pistons (unless they are poking out of the block).

I have definitely got a racing clutch after trying a standard one.

Can confirm all of the above on Mike's car. A VERY different driving experience to mine. A lot more raw!!! Or is that racy [:D]

Had just over 200/205 recorded on Mike's G Tech, although later runs did show two runs at 251???

Now with DPW, uprated fuel regulator, chip and Bailey DV, will give it a whirl this evening.

Will let you know how it goes.

IIRC the G-Tech gives a figure for power at the wheels so 251 would be about right for mild modifications (circa 290 flywheel bhp).

I'm looking forward to tonights reading - don't burn too much rubber [:eek:]

What would a standard turbo read at the back wheel?
Does this mean the 220 & 250 standard car is measured at the flywheel?

Yes. Pretty much all power figures you read for cars relates to engine HP rather than whell HP. It's a higher number and therefore an easier sell.
 
Using the very rough calculation that a 944 loses 15% of flywheel power trough its drivetrain, then a 220 Turbo will have around 190 bhp to the rear wheels

Right only did a couple of runs last night with the G Tech.

First runs pre mods with Mike ten days ago were 205 ish.

Mods are Promax Level 2 kit running 1.2 BAR
Last night after mods recorded 260.

Guess this seems about an expected figure.
