Boost gauge - what do I need?

Since my car started out as a 944 NA and now has a turbo, there is no factory boost gauge... in fact there isn't one at all. Since the car is in the garage having it's starting issue sorted (cause located) I think it's time to fit a boost gauge.

The car is now a 2.8L with a standard 944 turbocharger and the garage is asking me what boost gauge I need them to fit i.e. what range of boost it should cover?

Any thoughts?

Ref fitment, I was going to use the cubby-hole below the stereo - the gauge is for diagnostics rather than looking at with my foot flat to the floor. Again, thoughts?

Cubby hole is good. I have my AFR gauge there also, can still manage to view it when on boost! Any reputable make be good and I suggest one that shows vaccuum and positive boost. Up to 25psi will be perfect. I have a VDO gauge who are the makers of the dials already in the car. Was about £50. Take a feed from the KLR for it.

+1 for VDO vision as they look very "factory"

you might want to look at one with a peak hold capability - I'm not sure VDO do that.

what they both said, VDO.

The vacuum reading is useful - you will become familiar with the tick-over reading of about -6psi

unless a pipe comes off in which case tickover is -2psi so you know there's a problem.

well done on the 2.8t from a 944na.

Thanks for the advice. VDO it is.

George - I can only take credit for taking on a 90% finished project and seeing it through. The engine was done when I got the car, I've just been sorting out the teething problems!

Got VDO Boost gauge in the garage which i can sell for a decent offer, it only reads positive pressure though (which is what you want) i cut some black perspex sheet to fit the cubby hole and fitted boost and AFR gauges i have now gone fancy ass digital (AEM boost and Innovate AFR) [:D]

968 cubby?

They come with a smaller square hole but in the past people fit 50mm gauges with success
