Boot carpet

The carpet has a rigid foam backing over the cavities and a small line of which is missing so the carpet itself acts like a hinge allowing access to them. In my experience it isn't unusual to find the hard foam has detached itself after being folded too many times, but the carpet flaps should still remain in place even then. If you'd like to post a link we can have a look and see if it looks normal or not.

Thank you for the reply, here is the link to the item on ebay [link=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=250443961802]http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=250443961802[/link]

I think that's a 968 boot carpet, the hump for the spare wheel is too small for even a late 944. An '82 944 would have had a full size spare wheel & the boot carpet hump would go almost to the top at the back. On later 944s with a space saver (deflated tyre) the hump goes about half-way up the back, on 968s the spare sits at about a 45degree angle & the hump is very small. Also 924 boot carpets look similar to 944 ones but have smaller cubby-hole flaps. Good luck with your search.

Hi Guys

I've recently bought myself a 1982 Porsche 944 which I intend to restore. When I purchased the car a previous owner had large speakers etc. in the boot and it appears that they had cut the carpet to accomodate the speakers which were housed in the boot wells. Can someone tell me whether there is a board or similar to cover the boot wells and whether the carpet is designed to cover the wells, as I have been looking at a boot carpet on ebay, but it appears to have cut outs each side where the boot wells are. Surely this can't be correct. Any comments most welcome.

Thanks

Wayne

Thanks for the reply, I will give the ebay carpet a miss but I am confused as the car has a space saver tyre in the boot and an oval dashboard. The person I bought it from did not provide me with a log book but furnished me with a HPI statement which states the car was manufactured in 1982 on an X plate with a VIN number of WPOZZZ94ZCN402341

Hmmm interesting... I have just put a 944 interior, including boot carpet, side panels etc into a 924, and never noticed anything not fitting! I would suggest the difference is negligable... I'll have to go and have another look at the 924 now! I have a spare, relatively good 924 boot carpet in brown... free to collect.

Wayne don't buy that one - that doesn't look right at all. Must be for a 968.

The VIN relates to a 1982 model year car, but oval dashboards didnt appear until the 1986 model year. Things like the dashboard can be swapped over: its a big job but it wasnt unheard of in the early to mid ninties (and sometimes later). There are some fundamental differences between series one (924 dash) and series two (oval dash) 944s whih cant be altered. One of these is the battery position on a right hand drive car: is your battery under thebonnet, beneath the windscreen on the passenger side, or is it in the NSR wheel arch cubby accessed from the hatch area? Thank you for all your comments. Thanks Trev for the offer of a boot carpet but unfortunately I need a black one, otherwise I would have been interested. In response to Simon's comments .. my battery is located in the engine bay just in front of the widscreen on the passengers side.

Hi Wayne, It should be easy to find an early black boot carpet, just wait for a really good one as there's loads of rubbish on the various auction sites. [;)] If anyone has an immaculate black boot carpet for an S2 let me know, as I need one. [8|]

Good! There was a 'specialist' whose name and trading name escapes me now (for the better as he went bust in disgrace) who was based on Well Lane in Leeds or wherever it is; who offered the parts to retro-fit an oval dash into a series one car, in, I think, 1994. If it all still works now then it cant have been a bad job.
