Boot dampers

Evening all, might finally be able to get round to sorting my boot lid sooner or later. The button in the drivers footwell seems to release the catch, but the lid doesn't lift without a tug. Am I right to assume I need to replace the struts/dampers? Could it be that the catch isn't releasing properly? Can I test it anyhow? Thanks guys

...and is this the right part? Name is a little confusing!

Thats the beasty. Fitting is a doddle. Make sure you know which side you need. You can often tell because one side or the other is stuck when you try pulling up and the rubber lip. On mine, the nearside (left) latch failed to release. I replaced the left damper and, hey presto, the rear hatch lifts up all on its own.

Ben,
Funny I have just come in from fitting a new set of hatch struts. I didn't think my old ones were that bad as they would lift the hatch without help once it was started. But the new ones are much stronger - mine are from Promax. One will support the hatch on it own.

I haven't really played with it but I hope the hatch will now lift one its own - my pins are fairly new so I may need to adjust the release point a little but it does seem mush better.
Need to get some bonnet ones now.

Thanks chaps, mine lifts itself from a fairly low point, so would appear not to have enough ooomph to lift from the shut position. I'll try a new strut or 2. Cheers, Ben.
