Boot release button removal

Does anyone know if the boot release button in the drivers footwell can be unscrewed/ removed from the car body?

I was pfaffing around with wiring down there a few weeks ago and pulled out the triangular piece of capet that goes round the button and for the life of me I can't get it back in place anymore. It would be easy if I could simply remove the button, put the carpet in position then replace the button back over the top of it.

Trouble is I can't see a way to remove that damned button []

Any clues?

It just pulls out,held in by spring clips attached to the body of the switch.

Try levering the top out & the rest will follow. The wires are pretty short IIRC so don't pull too hard []
