I was about to make another cam when I bought a second hand motor, just for the cam. This one broke in my hands when testing the strength of it. So that was no. 2.
So I had to make one anyway.
Pic is of the remaining halves of the snappy alloy ones and the replacement.
Got a spare motor.

mine needs the key in to work
Take a look under the carpet (where the lock is) and I bet the cable will have snapped. Pretty easy fix.

Perhaps a little lubrication of the mechanism would be worthwhile?
If I recall it's normally lightly greased.
Mines never been right...you may find that you have to live with it.
The only time I had the boot so it would open automatically when I pressed the release, it used to fly open when I went over a bump. Now, I just give it a bit of manual assistance once I've pushed the release.
Oh, is it meant to open when you push the button? (As in, rise up on the struts). Mine doesn't. You press the button and then give it a bit of a tug and it opens. The only time I had the boot so it would open automatically when I pressed the release, it used to fly open when I went over a bump.
