Bosch silver battery

Just bought one of these from ECP for my S and it does not seem to have anywhere to connect the little breather pipe that vents the gas. The Halfords one coming out does. Do I not need to bother or have they given me the wrong one?

PS Well its in and the car fires up instantly, no more churning starter motor. Still a bit concerned about the pipe - there is a hole the right shape at the top but it looks just part of the molding. Any thoughts?

After a lot of arguing with ECP I gave up.......

Two years on and I've not passed out from the un-vented fumes [8D]

Thanks both. My impression was that the vent was to help discharge any gas that might react to sparks on a jump start? Not keen on passing out mind.
I'll see how it goes

I guess that if you've opened the hatch to jump start the car, there won't be a build up of fumes to cause a problem.

I do wonder why, if the original battery was vented, new ones don't need to be? Battery technology doesn't seem to have leapt ahead in the last twenty years!

I believe gentlemen that "Sealed" batteries are known as sealed batteries because they are sealed. [&:] [:D]

Electrolyte in batteries used to be hydroclroic acid base and the small amount of gas given off is hydrogen, ergo you have littledanger of passing out but as hinted at above you may explode... something like the old Zeppellin airships.[8|]
