If you can find a garage that is used to the CIS system, used in old Mercs and Fords also, this will be to your advantage.
Resolving these issues is just a question of doing basic checks, a fuel pressure test kit is first requirement, and being methodical.
Maybe phone round some local garages and ask if they still have the knowledge of k-jet systems and go from there.

if it was working OK when you last ran it ,then K-Jetronic should still be correctly adjusted now but perhaps something has been altered slightly.
Has it got the original fuel in the tank?If so,the benzene content may have settled out.
If the fuel pump is running ,it's a good idea to check it's current draw-anything over 8 amps indicates deteriorating performance & pressure levels are critical in the CIS system, hence the suggestions above ,but if there have been no changes made ,it might just need the mixture checking which requires a simple exhaust gas analyser ( such as the one Gunsen do) & an Allen key.
Possibly RPM Technik in Hertfordshire could look at it for you-although I have not used them,I have been there when my son bought a 964 off them & they appeared to have 924/924S/944 ability.
I made some enquiries at this place in Hitchin for Paul Ebbs a while ago when he had his 924. The owner told me that he has all the necessary kit for setting up the K-Jetronic system, although it's a while since he used it.
