BOSE Rear Bass Box - I do not have one

I got my 996 3.6 second hand, and it had Bose as an option. I recently went in a freinds 996 and he also had the Bose option, but his had a really cool real (Max Power) bass box in the dip behind the rear seats. Is anyone aware of why my Bose option would not have the bass box, and if this Bass box is retrofittable to 996's with Bose.?

Are they both coupe's & the same model year, or is one a cab. ?

Any decent ICE centre should be able to fit whatever Bas Box you require/would fit.
Mine certainly could.

Hi, they both are identical C2 Coupe's My02, except the one with the Bassbox has PCM and mine does not...

Hi, checked on mine for you, it's an 02 Turbo, comes with Bose as standard, so should be the same!
The whole first carpeted rear section behind the seats is a bass box, flip the rear seats forward & you can see a small "Bose outlet" on either side. If you look at it with the seats up it simply looks like the rear parcel shelf & you wouldn't know it's a bass unit. For info. this contains two 13.3cm low range speakers in 13.8 litre bass enclosure, plus bose system also has two speakers in dash top, two in doors & two in the rear panels . Is this the same as yours ? If not I can always give you the option code to check on your VIL sticker to see if Bose is definitely fitted to your car!!

Thanks for the explanation but this is exactly the bit I am missing (much to my annoyance as my stereo sounds great in the mid range but is missing the Bass response such a unit would provide). If you have the option code to hand that would be great. My dealer is stumped too, he has never seen Bose without the Box.

This is a strange one, the bass box is definitely standard fit if you have Bose, maybe you have the sound pack which is another sound upgrade, do the speakers also have the bose logo on them?
The option code for Bose is 680, the sound pack is 490, let us know what you find out, if you don't have either of the codes on your VIL sticker I can give you Porsche HQ's number & they can confirm the exact spec, providing it is a UK car. Is it a Uk supplied car with C16 as the first code on your options list?

My car is UK Spec but German sourced, so the VIL is through Germany...I am beginning to think that someone has just put Bose front speakers in my car, perhaps that is an option in Germany. Only the front door speakers have Bose on them none of the others do, which I think is the same in all Bose fitted cars.

Oh well, just have to make do with the beautiful noise of the Flat 6.

The VIL is printed at the factory, so if it's a Uk spec car it should all be as per a Uk car, what is the first code on your options list is it C16, or something different like C98, do tell, if it is Bose it should still have the 690 code even if it isn't Uk spec. Please let me know the country code you have on the car (& option codes if possible) it's of interest.

Doe the front speakers in the doors have the BOSE badge on them?

Alternatively, and am I being sceptical here, but if you bought it privately the speaker covers on the front may well have been changed to make out its a bose system. The only way to tell is to ring Porsche Gb and quote you VIN muber and they will tell you. Alternatively if you hve a good relationship with your local OPC give them a call and they can lok it up based on your reg number.

Hi Gant. No 690 and I cannot decode some of the other numbers. XKE, XKW, XKX, XNY, XRL, XTF, XVT, 226, C16 and the other ones I can find..

My Bose badge is fitted in the middle back of the speaker and I noticed that on bose fitted cars at the festival this weekend that thier stickers were at the top of the speakers.

You have the all important C16, which means it was built at the factory to Uk specification.
Some of your others are XKX - instrument surround in artic silver & XRL - 18" sports design wheels, the other X numbers are probably various silver bits of trim, as the Uk have a special code for trim packs (e.g. artic silver small-E61, large E-78) but the factory often list every component of the pack seperately with it's own code, do you have one of the silver packs (e.g. ignition surround, dash, door handles, dash strips, centre vents etc) ??
