Bose Sound Query

Hi all,

I just want to check something with you all before I take my car into the OPC to check something out.

I have Bose fitted but on some songs, bass heavy, the door makes a vibrating noise. This can be on a setting as low as 1. I doesn't seem to happen on all songs, but when it does it's quite noticeable.

I just wanted to check with other Bose users if they experience the same issue.

Thanks,
Richard.

I too have found that the Bose sound system seems to be bass loaded. I have adjusted the sound system accordingly.

Reading your thread Richard you have turned the bass down on the unit and it looks as though it has made very little difference.

I do have a similar problem with certain tunes whereby the track is very heavy with bass and reverberates within the car. Calling in and having someone take a look at it would probably be a good idea. Good Luck.

Thanks Ray. The car is going in tomorrow for two days for them to sort it out (they want it for two days in case they need to order parts).

It seems to be worse when the car is moving which I find quite strange.

I'll keep you updated.

Richard,

Thanks for the update and yes, I would be interested in the results.

Regards

Ray

Look forward to hearing the results too Richard, I have a few trim rattles / vibrations coming from the rear of my car, haven't got time to take my car back at the mo but will probably get them to look at it when it goes in for it's first service.

I've had an update from the OPC. Apparently a piece of chrome trim on the door card is vibrating so the whole door card needs replacing. It's on order and should be delivered tomorrow so I'll be able to try it out then and confirm it's fixed. I'll let you know.

Yes, rather sad really. Whatever happened to repairing rather than replacing something?

A sign of the times; plus, with the PCs every "repair" has to be guaranteed for 2-years and also this is a warranty job.

Jeff

You're all right, it does seem quite extreme to replace a whole door panel!!

And to be honest I don't even know which bit of chrome they're referring to, it doesn't have any does it? Except maybe the door handle. I've got the standard silver insert strip, and that's definitely not chrome.

Hopefully it'll solve the problem anyway, I'll be happy if it does.

OK, an update. Got the car back today, and all now seems to be OK.

So the new door card was delivered to the OPC and when they came to replace it they found that the existing door card had a whole piece of foam missing. So instead of putting on the new door card they just put in the piece of foam. I've given it a quick try and it now sounds good.

And the buzzing/rattling noise from the back was the emergency rear hatch cable vibrating, that also seems to have been fixed.

So all good news :)

On the 987, you can massively improve the boomy bass problem with Bose by stuffing the sub enclosure with cheap pillow wadding. Quick and easy to do and you will not be disappointed. Details can be found on Planet9. Highly recommended.

Good to read this and the solutions. I get this sometimes and in particular from the music played quietly behind traffic announcements!

I have not got round to looking yet, but where is the sub enclosure?

Sub enclosure is in the passenger footwell against the console.

On rattles and such in the rear, on my gen1 I had to remove the hatch trim panel and found that a buying noise was caused by a broken cable support clip fretting the broken ends against each other, removed the clip and replaced it with a bit of adhesive tape, another problem near the passenger side seatbelt turned out to be the window frame bolt which was stopped by undoing the nut using an Allen key in the bolt and spanner on the nut, I tried grease, Loctite and eventually the lacquer from a touch up kit which when the nut was tightened set and held the two parts securely. Sometimes the rubber caps on the hatch supports split which will change the load on them, so they can fret and squeak anoth annoyance or the rubber locations of the counterbalance weights can soften allowing them to rattle, again that needs the hatch trim panel to be removed.

Glad it's sorted and your happy, nothing worse than annoying cabin rattles etc!

I'm thinking my rattling noise from the rear may also be caused by the emergency rear hatch cable vibrating, I'll be getting my OPC to look at this when it's in next...
