Bose speaker upgrade in 718GTS

There are a number of threads on Rennlist about swapping out the Bose tweeters for the Burmester versions. I decided to give it a go… Two new tweeters ordered from the local OPC came in around £130. Some careful use of plastic trim tools and 5-10 minutes per side later the original Bose tweeters were replaced with the new Burmesters. Easy replacement - you just need to remove a tiny section of plastic on the original connectors to allow them to fit into the Burmester speakers. Must say, they are a great upgrade - much clearer sound… for those times when I’m not listening to the flat six singing!

Would you mind sharing any detail of part numbers etc so I don’t stumble at the first hurdle with my OPC? Thanks Tim

Hi Tim,

The Burmester tweeter part number: 7PP 035 412 A

Sold as singles so 2x [;)]

Gav

No problem.

FWIW I didn’t bother with the caps and I’m listening at decent volume levels - enough to be heard at 70 mph with the hood down. Great simple upgrade, definitely improves the sound quality.

Have just been quoted £216.60 for the 2 tweeters inc PCGB discount from OPC Reading, think I need to shop elsewhere?

Yes - that’s ridiculous! I paid £65 each… shop around at some other OPCs. They’re not large so postage shouldn’t be too expensive.

Thank you all for help identifying the part and advising on best place to purchase, items now ordered👍

Good effort! You’ll need some plastic trim removal tools (and something to rest them on like a chamois, microfibre, etc.) to lever out the air vents. If you’re like me you’ll spend 15 mins removing the first and then 30s on the other side! You can modify the connector cable by removing a tiny section of the connector block using a sharp knife / stanley blade. You can check out the install process (you probably have already!) on the Renn list page: https://rennlist.com/forums/718-gts-4-0-gt4-gt4rs-spyder-25th-anniversary/1289190-bose-tweeter-upgrade-17.html

You’re absolutely right, the shall I, can I, should I and an over cautious 20 mins for the first then 5 mins for the second followed by a reset of the audio parameters and I’m very pleased with the result 👍

Great! Pleased that worked well for you - I think it’s an excellent upgrade for not too high an outlay. Happy motoring / listening!
