Bought a 993!

Hello, thought I best introduce myself and my newly acquired 993 to this section of the forum. Prior to moving to Australia I owned a very nice 944 S2 and found the forum very helpfull. Now I've returned to the UK I've treated myself to a 993 and ticked another item of the bucket list!

I'm sure the car will be known to some on the forum as it was originally 'down south'. At some point it's had a "turbo" style spoiler front and rear installed, which I'm not really convinced about, and 997 turbo style alloys. I will change these as they have 285/30 rears which don't suit the narrow body. Looking for a set of genuine hollow spokes and would run 265/35 rears.......any thoughts?

There are several minor items I will have to sort out so will be no doubt updating as I go....

Hi Colin

Congratulations on the 993 purchase. I'm sure you will enjoy. The 993 forum has quite a section of stats etc and a good FAQ section.

If you dont find what you want just ask!

P.S. I prefer my cars standard with regards to the wheels[;)]

Colin,

Congratulations on your purchase. I've had my 96 993 for nearly two years, its fun. Can you spill the beans on the car....
What year?
Mileage?
Manual or auto?
What suspension is on it?
How much did you pay for it?

Russell

Well done Colin, it's a wonderful car and I'm sure you will never regret it.

You will find the 993 forum pages a lot quieter than the 944.

I have a '97 varioram myself, although I still have the 944 S2 (now a race car) as well.

Hey Russel,

It's a 94 C2 manual with marble grey leather interior.

Everything standard apart from the wheels and bodykit which will be changed........

Paid less than ÂŁ20K which seemed reasonable. FSH with no urgent money needing spent so looking forward to the summer!

I think your correct, RS spoiler - turbo wing. Both installed by previous owner twice removed so not much details I'm afraid, unless anyone recognises there handy work..........

I'm seriously considering reverting back to standard C2 trim. The options tell me it was supplied with 17" cup's which would be more forgiving on our Scottish roads, however if I keep the spoilers would need to keep the look with 18" hollow spokes - either way the 997 wheels have to go!

... either way the 997 wheels have to go!

I fully agree !

I've always liked those particular 997 wheels - they really suit a 997 and I'd assumed they'd look good on a 993, but, now I see the picture not so sure. . .

I appreciate them on the 997 turbo but they are too 'modern' for the 993.........does that make sense?

Anyway the PO spent a small fortune no doubt and they are shod with lovely Pirelli' properly rated tyres all less than 800 miles old!

What do reckon there worth and what would the chance be of swappsy's for some 18" hollow spokes with equally lovely tyres?

Once the weather breaks I'll get all the details and post up in the For Sale section........or I may just drive up to Glencoe instead!

Colin

Hi Colin,

Totally agree about the wheels - they don't do the car justice. I've had my 993 for about 18 months now and absolutely love it. I've got a set of genuine 17" Cup 2's that I may consider selling if your interested?

I'm sure you'll really enjoy the car!

Ossie

Forgot to say that I'm in Glasgow if your interested. You could always try the wheels out if you liked? There is a set of MPS 2's on them at the mo.

Hey Ossie,

May take you up on that offer if only just to see what the cup 2's look like with the rear wing and spoiler.

I'm negotiating for a set of turbo hollow spokes at the moment so if I don't get them I'll be in touch!

Where's in Glasgow are you - we should meet up and compare cars!

Colin

I lived in Mount Florida for several years so know the Southside relatively well......I'm over near Strathaven (Stonehouse really) so next time I have (or you have ) the car out for a run give me a shout if suits.....I'll PM you my mobile.
