Bought a car, a few questions

1 - What spec is the mt gearbox fluid?
2 - Can I easily upgrade the stereo headunit?
3 - It goes to the left. Is this by design.
4 - Neither of my rear speakers work. It is not the fader.
5 - The thrust bearing makes a noise. Elsewhere on the internet I have been told this could be something else, but not what.
6 - It sounds as though the timing chain tensioners take a few seconds to fill up. Is this normal?

Its a 2001 3.2 manual transmission.

Thanks.

1 - Mobilube PTX or Shell Transaxle 75W-90
2 - Relatively easily, but you need to know if it is the basic audio system (no amp) or the M490 sound package
3 - No. Sounds like you should get a 4-wheel alignment done
4 - Could be any number of things, but it also depends on what audio option you have
5 - Hmmm. If the thrust bearing is making a noise, that is probably what it is! Dual mass flywheels can rattle - perhaps that is what they are referring to?
6 - It is unlikely to be the chain tensioners. It often takes a second or two to pump up the hydraulic tappets, and a startup clatter is quite common, especially after being left unused for a few days. I found a 5W-40 made a big improvement.

1 - Is that semi or fully?
2 - There is an amp behind the spare wheel.
3 - OK
4 - Do you disconnect the rear speakers to do a service?
5 - It seems to have stopped. I think the car had been stood before I bought it.
6 - I'm going to use 5w30. If its normal, that's not a problem.

Ta. :)

1 - I imagine it is synthetic, but those are the tw Porsche Approved oils. If you use them, you can't go wrong.
2 - You will need an Audioleads PC9-410 adapter, to connect the line outputs from the new head unit to The amp inputs using the existing plug on the loom. You also need to connect the blue wire on the Audioleads adapter to the white wire in the black power plug to provide a wake-up signal for the amp.
4 - I don't really know, but I suspect you might have to, to remove the engine cover. Another Boxster owner may know for sure.
6 - DON'T use 5W-30. Porsche approved oils are 0W-40 or 5W-40. 5W-30 is too thin.

3 - It goes to the left. Is this by design.
4 - Neither of my rear speakers work. It is not the fader.

3 - Was low tyre pressure.
4 - Do I even have rear speakers? I can't see any.

Ta. :)

3 - No
4 - Depends - have you got the Bose upgrade package? If so then rear speakers are visible! If you have a sliding door above the engine and a recess each side of it then you have no Bose. Not many cars do...
