Hi Guys
Some advice please!

A friend has asked me what I think of a Boxster that's for sale and I said I would see what the club guys had to say on the forum.

It's been for sale since June and recently it's been on ebay where it didn't sell. Here's the link:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=260276639660&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=016

Its near Crewe I understand.

He says it smell musty inside - but thats probably due to it standing outside and soft top drains holes blocked etc.

Does anyone know this car or have any good advice that I can pass on. It would need a full inspection - not sure where the nearest one to Crewe would be though?

Many thanks in advance,
Peter

Oops![8D]

Car looks nice, but overpriced if he thinks he's getting £9.5k for it. I'd say he's more likely to get low £8s for it privately and certainly under £7k from a dealer.
He doesn't mention if it's a lux pack (which would include amongst other items already there..full leather) but the new hood is a very nice extra.

Looks pretty good to me but as i've found out, most of the potential problems are likely to be found through a proper inspection, as most are not cosmetic. Someone from the club/boxster register could probably recommend a good guy in your area. £300 or so might sound like a lot to shell out before you decide to buy, but in my opinion its well worth it. You should get at least this back when negotiating on the price. The glass screen is a big bonus.

Good luck

Geoff

Some advice please!

I can find 175 on Autotrader - Two with less than 60K that read as good as this one at under £8k.
My advice would be to wait another 4 weeks by which time the summer will be over - joke!
A glut of soft tops hit the market at this point - even more choice/less price then. If you have to travel
line up two or three in the same area and view. When you find one your happy with leave a
returnable deposit subject to PPI - suggest Peter Morgan.

Have you got the green light for the PEYT?

Not sure i completely agree with the price pundits. Not doubting that a stealer would offer 7k but a private sale at about 9-9.5k is more likely i reckon. Of course you can do a meaningless search of all Boxsters for sale but unless you are genuinely willing to travel this tends to reduce the pickings a fair bit. There are as with any Porsche model, plenty of duffers out there . A good generally tidy car will always find a buyer and will command a wee bit more because of this. There is always a bargin somewhere if you look long and hard enough but the old addage of you get what you pay for has never been truer when buying Porsche.

I have to agree that prices for early Boxsters are falling quite rapidly due to the saturated market. I sold my showroom condition 1997 Boxster with 56,000 miles in April this year for £10750 which was the price I paid for it the year before. I did spend a fair bit on it during that time. I upgraded to a new roof with the glass screen, added a new Becker cd player with sat nav and the clear light package. Looking at Boxsters of the same age and condition now I would be lucky to get 8.5 - 9k for it so I'm glad I did sell it when I did. I think there are too many of them on the market which is good news for buyers looking for a competitive price but bad news if you want to retain premuim prices.
