Boxster 2.7 running lumpy - Help please ?

Hello All,

I have a 2000 2.7 Boxster with 78K on the clock. It's always been well maintained and is a fantastic car.

It's used weekends mainly and is garaged. Noticed over the last couple of weeks it feels as if the power is a little hesitant... not fuel starved as such but as if something is not quite 100%

No warning lights , coil packs recently done and in fainess runs ok , no misfire or rough sounds. The engine is dry and has no leaks.

I run it with a K&N filter as the only modification.

My Initial thoughts - plugs , lambarda sensors , fuel filter, poor tank of fuel

Any views or advice welcomed before I proceed with a solution.

Could be the oxygen sensors which do eventually fail within the mileage you mention. Something like £200-£250 per sensor.
 
yes or could be your maf, at around the same price, might be advised to hook it up and see if there are any error codes,
if you don't want to do that, try resetting your ecu by disconnection the battery for about 20 mins , just remember to have your radio code on hand and be able to reset the speedo back to mph from kph
 
hi Paul,

Recently had a similar problem with my 2001 boxster s 986. No warning lights, but was running awful. Tried all the obvious as mention, battery disconnect etc but no joy. Took her to OPC Nottingham who fitted a new MAF sensor, and carried out an adaptive roadtest. She now runs perfect and MPG vastly improved! The guys at Nottingham did a fantastic job and a fair price too.. May be worth getting it checked out. Common fault I believe.

It may be your MAF especially as you are using a KN Filter they are not a good idea. Bad for the mafs with an oil related air filters.
Try to clean the maf wire with a electrical cleaner it may help
Failing that it may need replacing.
 
Well thank you all for your kind views and assistance I am very grateful.

End result is

6K miles on K&N needs a clean out.

Removed MAF clean as a whisltle so blows the K&N filter damage theory into Star Wars theory.

Cleaned , soapy water , runs ace !

No mention of oiling the K&N so it won't stop the dirt then, I agree with Cliff, I'd stick with a paper filter anyway.[8|]
 
Rule number 1 NEVER use an oiled filter with a modern Porsche engine; the initial (small) performance gains are generally followed by performance loss and the eventual contamination of the MAF.

Stick with the Porsche paper filter.

 
how hard was the maf to take out, think i might clean mine, if your concerned with the k & n get a pipercross maf friendly filter
