I have a 2001 Boxster S that is crunching on 2nd gear and have been told its quite common. Its done 61k. I have been quoted up to 2k + vat for the work.[:(] has anyone else suffered similar problems or can recommend a good specialist. I love the car but the crunching is driving me nuts !!!![]

Sounds like second gear syncro has gone. The good news is that all the individual internal parts for the 6-speed gearbox are now available from Porsche.

Where are you located? I would recommend Wrightune in Wallingford, Oxon. Tony Wright and I have been mates for years, so I guess there is an affiliation. http://www.wrightune.co.uk

No personal experience, but Autofarm and Wrightune should be able to do it.
Might also try GT-One if you are more south based.
