hi new on here and saving for a 3.2 boxster ,what should I look for when buying ,is there any bad points to watch for on this particular model thanks

Hi Kevin, and welcome to the forum.

I note that you've also asked this question on the Scotland part of the forum where GreigM has given you some useful tips. I'd also add that it's worth making sure that the suspension bushes aren't worn, a common fault, and also that the aircon and all the electrics are functioning correctly.

As always when buying an older car, buy on condition and service record. A pre-purchase check from an established Porche Independent will give you an in-depth report on the car's condition and will be a worthwhile investment.

There are some very good cars out there but you need to be careful when purchasing; rectifying faults on a Porsche can be very expensive. If in doubt, walk away.

Good luck with your search.

Jeff

Hi Kevin, I also seen your post on Scotland section but didn't get round to replying.

Anyway others have already posted most of the important stuff.

Some say you should get a Specialist Inspection done when buying these cars, but they can be very severe in their findings. A few members have had their cars for sale and buyers have had Specialist inspections carried out, and they couldn't believe some of the nonsense they reported. I don't know if they are being over cautious, justifying themselves or just covering their bottom's .

What year of 3.2S are you looking for and what is your budget?

You haven't said where you are in Scotland, I am in Southside of Glasgow and will be at the Sherbrooke Castle Hotel for our Monthly meeting next Tuesday (4th Feb) from about 8pm. I will be in my 2000 Boxster S if you want a look round one.

They are great cars and good value at the moment.

Alan.

One of the things you need to have checked is whether there is an oil leak. A known fault with the 986 boxster and boxster S engine is the failure of either the Rear Main Oil Seal or intermediate Shaft Oil Seal. The only way to fix these problems is to drop the gearbox and replace the oil seals. The bearings on the intermediate shaft may also be affected. Walk away if you see oil leaking. My Boxster S has had the rear Main seal replaced. expensive.

You dont need to own a car to come along to any of the Scottish meets . In fact i would say this is the best way to find out about the cars .

well that's my Honda fireblade on ebay should add some usefull funds for Porsche boxter purchase

Hi
