Boxster 3.2 to Cayman 3.4 or 996 4S?

Hi

First time poster here albeit long time browser and appreciator of the forum.

I've been running my 987 Boxster 3.2S for around 9 months as a lightly used 2nd car. This has been my first Porsche and I'm now looking at moving into either a Cayman 3.4S or 996 4S.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has made a similar move previously. My Boxster has had some work carried out by Parr - an enlarged plenum throttle body and milltek exhaust (no ECU remap etc) - which for me, appears to really sharpen the drive / noise of the Boxster without being intrusive.

Cheers for any thoughts or guidance based on experiences.

As you can see I've had pretty much all three plus a few!!
The boxster s albeit 3.4s was the most recent
It was near identical to the cayman s which was brilliant - but the roof didn't come off for the sunshine !!
The driving experience was very similar so apart from a little more stiffness I don't think you'd see much real difference from your boxster s
The 996 I found fun but interior is very dated and plastic compared to the better materials of the 987series cars
If you want to go back in time I'd go one further as I did and try a 993 which was excellent .
If you want a 911 experience otherwise,I would go for a 997 which IMHO is streets ahead of the 996
Good luck
Dylan

Thanks Dylan, very helpful - much appreciated.

I've driven a friends 996 4S previously. It was a tiptronic and I felt a tad underwhelmed by it, albeit it was a creaky cabrio and it was a 15 min drive on local roads rather than a proper test. Conversely, I was smitten by my current Boxster after a similarly brief drive. The looks of the 4S appeal to me in particular with the wide body etc. 997 would be my preference all things considered, finding the perfect 997 within budget feels like more of a challenge however! 993 even more so, they are just stunning - some very nice members examples posted on here and 911UK.

Thanks again for the info, will continue to keep my eyes open - part of the fun is looking!
