Boxster 3.2s springs

Hi can anyone please tell me what the standard 986 3.2s spring poundage is - or if you have updated yours what poundage are you now using.

I don’t believe Porsche has ever published spring rate data. I couldn’t find any when I was doing my research prior to changing my suspension last year and to my knowledge no one online appears to have documented any tests.

The only data I have in my notes for Porsche applications was published by Ohlins (Road and Track Coilovers) for Boxster 986. These are: 70 N/mm or 7 kg/mm and 80 N/mm or 8 kg/mm for the front and rear respectively. I suspect that the Ohlins are considerably stiffer than the Porsche stock and the M030 (Sport) suspension, and far more suited to the track. I was originally intending to upgrade my car to M030 specification but having driven another Boxster with the M030 suspension on UK A roads I decided fit Bilstein B4 shocks (identical to the Porsche branded shocks but significantly less expensive) together with stock Porsche springs.

If I were doing it again, I would consider fitting Koni special active shocks as these appear to offer an ideal balance between controlling roll when driven hard and smoothing out the many imperfections found on Britain's poorly maintained roads.

The only data I can find is for MY2000, but it should also be applicable for your car. For the standard suspension on the 986 Boxster S the rates at the wheel are 24N/mm front and 30N/mm rear. For the sport suspension the respective rates are 30N/mm and 37N/mm.
