Boxster 981 ground clearance

Are there any Boxster 981 owners who could please offer some advice on ground clearance and if they have any problems negotiating speed ramps/humps. My wife has recently purchased a 2015 Boxster 981 with 21” wheels and is a bit concerned about the ground clearance when going over speed humps. According to the manual it states the clearance is 111mm which seems quite low if the max height of a speed hump is 100mm. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I have a 981. I’ve never had a problem with speed bumps. They do worry me and they do slow me down but I’ve always had enough ground clearance.

I assume the car is standard from the factory, and if so I would not see a problem.

My 987 on 19's rides over all the school bumps etc I've ever encountered in the UK of Europe.

Not sure if the ride height is the same, but can't be far off.

No issues in my 981 on 20" the air brake plastic ducts some times scrape as they are lower but never the front splitter, going over at an angle will obviously help .

I've never seen a 981 with 21" wheels - are you sure? I have 20" with PASM. Ground clearance is normally fine but we do lots of touring on bumpy minor roads with heavy luggage in both ends. Under those conditions you just need to be a bit careful when driving with spirit, but like others have said, you can get graunching from the little deflectors in front of the wheels but not the bodywork itself. I've never had a problem with ferry ramps (taking care) but kerbs along the edges of car parks tend to be at just the right height to catch the front. Without luggage, no problem.

Thanks for your message Brian and you are correct about the wheel size. As we only got the 981 yesterday, I have just checked the wheel size and they are 20”.

981 GTS 20" wheels never had any issues with ground clearance .

Different issue to a CR you have to be carfull with clearance an occasional problem.

We have a 981 GTS which has a different (slightly lower and longer) nose and that clears speedbumps around the roads of Hampshire and Berkshire etc .. just dont take them at 60mph [;)] If anything these days potholes are worse. After the madness of "anything goes" speed bumps in the early days of introduction, UK public road speedbumps are, these days, pretty well regulated with a max height of 100mm, no vertical face may exceed 6mm and gradient must be no more than 1:10

As always the ones to watch for are those on private land, which in theory should follow the public road regs, however remember those black plastic triangular ones shaped like a toblerone ? As the gradient of both the up & down faces was too severe as you drove over them at anything more than a few mph the suspension would bounce and you would ground out on them, luckily not seen one of those for a few years

Welcome to 981 ownership .. cracking cars .. enjoy [:)]

One tip, if it is the square speed cushions, or pillows, don't straddle them but run either the nearside or offside wheels over them (if you can!)
