Boxster 986 exhaust

Thought i will tell of my fun of finding a better sounding exhaust, On my first 986 as i work in a engineering company i made a kettle type exhaust ie stainless steel 15mm tube welded into the intake of the silencer then bent over the silencer and welded to the top of the tail pipe. Sound was spot on just a little louder than stock. When it came to trading in my boxster i had the boxster bug and found a low mileage 550 spider anniversary limited edition boxster s.The tail pipe is different i.e. like two pipes over the top of each other i did the kettle conversion and it did not work i.e. rasp loud at 3000 rpm removed it and welded up the holes.
I then tried a cat back stainless from toyo sports about £230 (warning some cowboys on eBay are selling very similar for £1000) this was well made and about 30 lbs. lighter than stock but when fitting the hanger bracket was 15mm short, made spacer this was ok but on a 300 mile run the Rockwall type filler in the baffles blew out and it sounded like a boy racer and at 70 mph it would hum and rasp I put the stock back on. About two weeks ago I noticed a add in eBay for tony banks custom exhaust good feedback and life time guarantee transferrable to next owner, arranged to take my car and receive a free cursory car in the meantime I noticed that toyosports were selling stainless headers for£135 including gaskets bolts etc. The standard boxster down pipes are very restrictive i.e. straight down and into a collector into a right angle and on to cat, Tony Banks agreed to fit at the same time. I made the 70 mile trip up to Leeds given a choice of tail pipes all ok but on inspection of the cats they were rotting near the brackets I decided to fit new sport cats. When I went to pick up the car i started it up and it sounded well deep and tuneful with no rasp in sight when driving back to Blackburn it sounded like a race prepared gt3 good but too loud for me. the following week I went back and Tony Banks fitted two baffles the sound is like the new boxster gts, it feels faster and i seem to getting mpg.

My backbox was rattling like crazy so I had Revolution Porsche in Leeds fit a new Dansk backbox only. Apparently they do three flavours of noisyness and mine is the mildest, closest to the original. There's a bit of a drone around 2800rpm that I don't think I had before.

Chris.

The toyosport back box had a drone about 3000 revs 70 -85 m ph you can feel it through the car the old porsche boxster exhaust had rubber mounted bolts that is way i removed it.

I've been look at the toyo exhausts but not heard that many good things about them i suppose they are cheap for a reason, im looking at maybe going down the janspeed rd has anybody had any experience with them on a boxster

What would people recommend for replacement exhaust?
I was looking on eBay and found a few at 245, but just wondered what they sounded like? I would like something with a little more rasp but not too over the top.

Any suggestions??

Hi dext i'm in the same boat as you i almost bought one of the 245 but not convinced about them if you look for toyo exhaust boxster on youtube you should get a few results

I had the toyosport cat back exhaust too loud and raspy for me (for sale) I know have a Tony Banks custom exhaust with 3 into one down pipes, sport cats and tails in stainless steel. The sound is spot on sounds like a boxster g.t.s.
