Hello folks

Am a newbie here. Just bought a 986 as I'm coming toward retirement and wanted a toy. I just tried to plug my Carista Bluetooth ODBC connector in only to find Carista don't support Porsche - D'Oh.... !

Anyone recommend another App which does ?

I can obviously Google but wanted to "Put myself out there" so to speak [:)]

Thanks in advance

Regards

Bill

More of the Saga....

I bought a Durametric. You pay £400 for a £10 cable in a box. So I expected the Software to be Top Notch - how naive of me !

It reads the codes fine but not the Actual Values. I tried more than 20 attempts (under instruction from Durametric Support) with the Engine Running - all to no avail

I sent it back.
I have ordered a £9.99 ODBC to USB cable on eBay. When the inclination and available time takes hold of me, I shall load ODBC drivers and install Microsoft SQL server. This is all that is under the hood of Durametric, well perhaps a tad more...

I suspect the ECU has a Specification for each monitoring component hard coded into its parameters. If this specification goes outside of what the ECU recognises then it will Log a Fault. I also suspect this is why they "encourage" us to use OEM parts. Patent parts will have a specification outside of this hard coded range and so the Software will annunciate faults more frequently. That and engine tolerances may go out of band.

I'll need to find out how to put an ECU into Test Mode and then see how to run diagnostic Specification tests on individual components. Perhaps a bit of fun on a Winter's Night when retirement finally comes to call. From this I could build my own Fault Tree Analysis.

Billious May I suggest that have a look, or join & post this up on BOXA.net. There are lot of very knowledgeable people on there who use this software. Good luck & enjoy your Boxster.

Odbc ? That’s an API standard for software drivers for connection to databases.

OBDII is the onboard diagnostic standard. Euro requirement from model year 2001 onwards. Early 986 were only partially OBD compliant as far as I know. They only give generic ( P0…. ) codes I think.

my knowledge of the 9x6 diags is a little sketchy but I seem to remember that they use K line for the few modules that are there and this post seems to suggest that durametric may have issues with that ( no 1st hand knowledge of that ) https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/915821-durametric-communication-problem-on-k-line-2-a.html

be interested to hear your results with the cable you have ordered and What software you will be using to collect the data From the car (especially if it has k line and canbus smarts )
