Boxster 987 car covers - opinions please!

My new Boxster will (hopefully) fit into a garage I’m renting. But I’d still like to put a cover over it.

Of course I’ve had a Google and there are options, but I’m after some advice from fellow Boxster owners.

Best cover? Go!
TIA

Yep, I see we get a club discount too. Just after some thoughts from anyone who has one.

also found the official Porsche OEM outdoor cover via Design911.

official better or just paying for the brand?

I have a Classic Additions custom indoor car cover in black with silver pinstripe and Porsche logo that I may be selling.

It is superb quality and very well shaped to the contours of the car. It was for a 987 but also fitted my 981 but was quite tight. I am going to try it on my 718 but as these a a few inches longer it may not fit.

Definitely look at their custom covers, beautifully made out of quality material.

PM me if interested, I can send you some photos.

I use a Hamilton classics exterior cover and it’s very good. No scratches and survived the wind and rain of West Scotland without trouble. Good price too with or without club discount. Branded of course you will pay for the Porsche badge. One minor niggle is the soft fleecy inside of the cover drags on the soft top mohair and can make fine adjustments a bit awkward but it’s a trivial issue to manage.

Jeff

I too have a Hamiltons cover.

Extremely good.

Multi layer material, protects from rain, frost, show, sun (when we get some), and all forms of bird guano.

Eyelets front and rear to tie rope between to prevent cover recovery from neighbours gardens.

Two 'side to side' straps for easy fixing.

Only gripe is the lack of 'pockets' for the wing mirrors. This feature would make it the best cover on the market.

I've got one of the generic silver 'breathable' covers that you can buy online - I had it for one of my previous cars and it still fits the 718.

It offers a fair degree of protection and is fleece lined. It was great for keeping the car spotless and for keeping the worst of the weather out but over this winter I think the waterproofing has suffered.

When I came to unwrap the car, I'd find that water had seeped in and was trapped between the cover and the car.

I now take the cover off after heavy rain to dry it - it wasn't cheap, but you get what you pay for I guess.

I'm looking to upgrade to something better and will be looking at the options others have suggested above.....

The classic additions cover has a pre-cover that fits over the hood and wind mirrors, it's a soft material that then allows the main cover to be moved over the soft top without the dragging effect. It also has the wing mirror pockets.

Good news is, it fits my 718👍

However I would really recommend the cover.

Just a word of warning when considering a car cover, especially outdoor... i used to keep my C4 Corvette outside with a fitted breatheable cover and although they are brilliant at keeping the car dry, if the car isn't absolutely free of dust or grime then the slightest breeze will cause it to rub and cause scratches.

I know you're looking at indoor storage but in the interim period if you can't get her in the garage then bear this in mind when using a cover.... keep her clean !!!

Si.

ps: i used to use the cabrioshield half cover when kept outside which worked a treat but it's now redundant since moving house with a garage .

I should add that you can option the Hamilton Classics cover with wing mirror pockets. I used a cheaper lighter cover years ago and that was a nightmare for flattening paintwork. No such issues with this cover despite my lax attitude to cleaning the car (its not filthy but I happily use it and put the cover on without cleaning every time - not recommended but seems the fleecy inner is very forgiving). I’m sure there are other very good covers out there but they are definitely not all equal and a good one is surprisingly effective.
