Boxster Advice

Just recently sold my beloved 2000 2.7 boxster after 5 years and am on the look out for a newer one.

I'm looking at a 2005 (05) on Saturday. Its done 18,000 miles, recently serviced, wind deflector, bose sound system, full leather, PSM aircon and a few other mod cons - apparently like new condition. I reckon i can maybe get it for £19,000 - IS THIS A GOOD PRICE.!!

One other thing - they say the RMS was replaced a few months ago. Now i had this replaced on my old car and cost me a pretty penny but I would have though Porsche would have sorted this out on the newer model or is this a one off.

Any advice would be much apprecited - Is there anything to look out for with the newer models - maybe a better year/reg to buy.

Many Thanks David

Yes it happens now and again. Do a search on RMS (you may need to time-bound it to 6 months) and have a read. It's not really a problem. Unless you are losing oil you can normally wait until the clutch needs replacing (if the car is out of warranty)

The latest RMS and internal engine mods came in for MY06. I don't know of any 06 onwards car having RMS or intermediate shaft failure. Is (was) it an S you looked at ? - £19k sounds too good for an S, about right for a 2.7

the put a thicker intermediate shaft bearing on the later models to to try combat the snapping of ims

My wife's '06 987 2.7 had its RMS replaced earlier this year under the Porsche warranty. It was only a minor leak - in fact I'm surprised Porsche did it without any quibble at all.

This is extra business for Porsche Centres, so they will welcome all warranty or extended warranty repairs without any quibbles, it only get tricky when main Porsche GB HQ or Porsche AG refuse for whatever reason or when there is no warranty cover as then it comes out of the centre's budget or down to the service attendant to negiotiate with Porsche HQ for part payment.

Regarding the price I would check the Auto Trader website as being more representative of what the Trade is asking for cars.

Well i bought the car after all the usual checks and speaking with Porsche about the RMS. They said the RMS wasn't leaking but "wet" and was replaced under warranty. I asked them why this manufacturing defect hadn't been resolved yet as my older 2000 boxster had its replaced - their answer "It has on later models" Surely this is not good enough!! [] Anyway - My new boxster is lovely, so much better than my other one, in every way. And the noiseeeee from the engine!! [:)] I'm looking to get some Carrera 19" alloys fitted if anyone has any for sale. David

I know a PCGB member who would like to sell their turbo alloys (the real hollow spoke ones, not the 'turbo-look' ones) from their GT2 if you're interested?
