Boxster Alarm Problem

Hi, I have had a 2002 Boxster 3.2S for just a few months. If I don't drive it for 5 or 6 days, when I try to open the drivers side door with the electric thingo on the key fob it doesn't work. I then have to open the door with the actual key which sets off the alarm. I then put the key in the ignition which switches off the alarm but there's 20-30 secs or so worth of noise.

I researched this issue on the internet and read somewhere that the "doesn't work after 5 days" is somewhow deliberate to save battery. One poster said that after opening the door with the key you get 10-20 secs to put it in the ignition before the alarm goes off but that doesn't work for me. Another poster suggested turning the door lock with the key but not opening it, then closing with the key and this somewhow resets the 5 days, but this doesn't work for me either.

Am not sure if I have a problem or just doing something wrong? Any help most welcome.

Hi Jon,

This is quite correct - the alarm stops monitoring for the remote control signal after 5 days to save the battery. This is certainly explained in the owners guide that came with my car - a 2001 model.

You've nearly got the way to disable it in your post, what you do is put the key in the lock, turn it to "wake up" the car (the courtesy lights will come on in the interior). You then press the lock/unlock button on the key to disable the alarm.

Job done!

I do exactly the same as Mark posted as I only drive mine at weekends - the method above for me everytime

use the same method as mark and never come across any problems. not the cleverst idea tho, 3 weeks ago my locks froze and because i hadnt drove the car for 5 days, couldnt get into the car as key would not go into the lock and the button would not work.
