We now know heaps about the new 981 Boxster; it is simply brilliant and I am very pleased with mine.
But how I wish the avionics were as good and as user-friendly as my Q3. You have to be either a jet pilot or have a degree in IT to understand it all. Actually, I take that back... I don't understand it and I am a jet pilot with a BSc in IT. [
]
For example, I noticed yesterday that despite ticking the box to ensure that my clock & PCM are updated by satellite, the clocks did not go forward at 2 pm Sunday morning (not that I was up at that time sitting in the Boxster to check, you understand [
]). Eventually, despite being a man, I read the manual and discovered that one had to tick an additional box to get the system to revert to BST. I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone in the UK would not want to!
Though I now applaud that Porsche have dragged themselves into the 20th Century (I did mean 20th) and we can all enjoy full postcode when selecting a destination, a lot of the PCM still mistifies me. For example, in my last Porsche I could access SMS messages, yet with the very same phone I now cannot. OK, so you might well say why on earth would you want to, but nevertheless, this is a step backwards in technology.
As for DAB radio, my Q3 had that over a year ago. It is described in the Boxster drivers manual, but unfortunately the hardware is not fitted to the car, nor can it be, even as an option [
] And I thought that Audi and Porsche were all part of one big happy family.
Finally, try looking in the index to find out how to store present position. The book suggests that one does it using the 'messages' facility. Sadly, that option does not appear on my PCM screen... or should I say scream! [
