Boxster Birthday Trackday Party

JCB..

After much deliberation with Steve Kevlin regarding the pro's and con's of various venues this is what is on the cards at the moment.

Time: Saturday April 29th 2006
Venue: Castle Combe
Open to: Boxsters

A fully PCGB managed track day at Castle Combe which will initially be offered exclusively to Boxster owners.

I'm looking into the possibility of putting on other attractions, driving challenge, display and concours (gulp). I'll also be knocking on the Local OPC's door and inviting their input.

Cost for the track day is £170 based on a maximum of 42 cars. If you just want to join the party it will not cost at all. It would be nice to fill the 42 slots with Boxsters but I would be very surprised to get anywhere near that figure. If we haven't managed it by a certain date (TBA) the event will be open to the whole club.

If we do go for the additional attractions we are going to need some helpers.

This will be a 'quiet' day so no straight through exhaust systems

Comments and suggestions are welcome and so too are notices of intentions to attend. Readies will not be required until the Club Trackday programme is published in the Post.

I've gone for Castle Combe over Bedford because if the venue is to be Bedford you can expect to have 60 plus cars paying to attend, then it may be feasible, but the per head cost would be in the order of £260. The more cars, the lower the per head cost, but the busier the track gets ! If you are expecting to organize anything in addition to the Track Day - at the same venue on the same day - then Bedford is not the ideal place, as it does not have the space available.

Castle Combe has plenty of Paddock Space and whilst not being exactly central it is within easy reach of the M4 and M5.

Excellent choice, John. Thanks for organising this and please count me in.

I've been on several very enjoyable track days at Castle Coombe, but we Boxsters have always been hugely outnumbered by various flavours of 911 so it would be great to restore the balance with a mainly-Boxster outing [:D]

I'm in too and hopefully I will not have to get seperate track day cover as my insurance policy renewal is due March 06 so hopefully I get a good quote which will cover club organised track days... Good one, John.

Sounds great, if not challenging (see link) but it will be exciting to try. Quarry looks a bit scary! I'll need a few tips.....

There's enough at the Combe to test your nerve - choosing the second braking zone at Quarry will get the Adrenaline flowing.

I am not sure about venturing onto the track with my beloved, but I would be happy to lend some support.

I hope to be there too. It's 533 miles from Ellon to Castle Combe so I will have to make a holiday of it but I am sure it will be worth it to meet up with all you Boxster nuts again and try my car out on the track.

[:D][:D][:D] Nobody mentioned flying!

I am not too sure or confident of my ability to safely drive my car around a circuit but would be prepared to help if I can.

Perhaps there can be an informal meeting to discuss safety etc. issues closer to the event.

What are the catering arrangements?

That's one of the reasons for trackdays!

The Combe has a cafe.

I think the biggest pressure on a trackday comes from yourself. The answer is to gradually work up to a pace at which you feel comfortable and not feel that you "have to keep up" with everyone. It would be good to see you there.
