Boxster brake pads and discs

My recently purchased 2000 Boxster needs knew pads and discs. Is it okay to get these fitted by " high street" outfits like ATS, Quick fit and such like? I' ve been recommended to get them fitted only at a Porsche dealer or specialist, but surely (and I may be being a bit naive here) brakes can be fitted by ATS etc, as long as they are original Porsche brakes?

I' m a new Porsche owner so any kind of advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for your help

I wouldn' t trust my Porsche to an outfit like Kwik-Fit ir ATS. You don' t have to use an OPC as your car is now out of warranty. You could use an independent Porsche specialist who know just as much about Porsches as mechanics at OPC' s but will probably give you a better service at a cheaper price - just my opinion!

Your comment refering to the Boxster no longer being under warranty interests me - my frt pads need changing and my OPC have quoted me the usual rip-off price. My car is still under warranty - does having my pads fitted by a non-OPC Porsche specialist in-validate my warranty ??

Type 911 (and others who advertise in Porsche Post) can supply the parts. They supplied me with Zimmerman discs at a much lower price than the OPC' s. You can either fit them yourself - it' s not that hard, or get you local trusted garage to do it for you.

so is it okay for trusted local garage to fit the breaks pads/discs, rather then OPC or speicalist? Bit confused.

I replaced the discs and pads on my car, it took me about an hour (it would have been less but the retaining pins where a pig to get out).
If your not mechanically minded then take the car to a Porsche specialist. Don' t risk an ordinary garage, if they jack up your car in the wrong place they will damage your floor pan.

If there is a Protyre near you use them.

As Andy says it is a very easy job to undertake yourself.
