Boxster built in Finland?

Just Scousers VIN decoder and it tells me that my car was assembled in Finland? Can this be right, is there any perceived difference in cars built in Germany or Finland?

It will be right as they are assembled in either Germany or Finland, I can't imagine that Porsche would let an inferior product go out from one of the factories so shouldn't be any difference in perception of quality, etc.

All of ours have been built in Finland

Look for the U in the 11th digit .. U = Uusikaupunki (Finland)

Its the Valmat Automotive factory

The also make the RK62 which is a Finish copy of the AK47 !

Well i'm pretty sure that guns were not on the options list when i ordered my last car. Maybe it's a local thing that you can have as an aftermarket addition, if you do a factory visit and collect your car.

I see that we hold interesting company aswell; Lada and Talbot Horizons.

Are any Boxsters assembled in Germany? I read about a guy who did a "factory collect" (in Germany) and his car had to be shipped in from Finland so he could collect it!

I was at the factory in Germany last year and was told that they could be made on the same line as the 997s but at present were all made in Finland. By the way its well worth a visit, go to the M.B. museam at the same time.

American "Tourist Delivery" are made in Finland.

ALL Boxsters go to Germany first before being shipped onwards.

Last time we were at the Factory they were making about 2 Boxsters per shift (so about 4 a day) so that they did not "lose the knowledge". It may have changed since.

The Finnish cars tend to have higher delivery mileage than the German ones. [;)]

I have seen a few 2005 and 2006 987s made in Germany. Have not looked at the 2007s. All the Caymans I have seen were made in Finland, but I have not looked at many Caymans.

All 1997s were made in Germany, but the car was a hit and Porsche could not keep up with production. Valemt production started in September 1997 for model year 1998.

True. Mine (Finnish built) came with 25miles on the clock and I saw it coming into the OPC so they didn't put the miles on it there. Do they road test the car before leaving the factory?

They don't road test anymore.
They used to do a real road test around Zuffenhausen. This would typicallly put 15 miles or so on the car. If there was anything that needed fixing, then it might be taken out again for a short test. (Hence some cars having a higher milage).

However, a couple of years ago they built road simulators, that allow them to "drive" the cars without them actually going anywhere, to a pre-programmed sequence, and effectively road-test them without the risk of stonechips or some lorry t-boning a finished car [&:]

have to say - if you've ever dealt with the finns, you'd be very very happy indeed to have your car built there. the most process centric, quality obsessed folk I have ever come across. finding out that my boxster was made in finland is a good thing for me!!

I was actually being facetious. [:D]

Seems wierd that my Finnish built 987 had the seat back rests on the wrong side of the car so that the backrest airbags were in the middle[&:] Never really got an explanation from Porsche, they just swapped them over after I spotted it after about a year of ownership!

How would the quality control guys miss something safety related like this?

yes mate...I figured they had a sense of humour. Porsche didn't bat an eyelid, so it wasn't that much of surprise to them! Would have been ugly if I had a side impact in this configuration though!!
