Boxster Colour

Thinking of changing my 986 Arctic silver Boxster for a Guards Red 2007 987 and achieving a long held ambition to have a red sports car! Keep hearing that red is less popular etc, values will be less. With the hit my 986 has had with the recession it certainly doesn't seem to have made much difference. What do other owners think? Be sensible or achieve a dream?

You can always vinyl wrap any car you want for around £1.5k and remove when you're bored of the colour/ want to sell. It also doubles up as a weak form of paint protection. I've seen a few examples, and done well, can look excellent.

Stop hiding with boring black or common silver, there is only one colour combination for the boxter!!!! Guards Red and Black Leather, after all "Red cars go faster don't they " !!

Go for it! Guards Red looks great! (Just a little biased) When the sun shines on your gleaming red Boxster, you will know you made the right choice [:)]

As a Porsche owner you've left it a little late to be thinking about being sensible. [;)]

Hi there I had guards red on my 944 turbo for 16 yrs and never regretted, still looks great on porsches and 987 Boxsters especially with black/dark interior - Lets face it the 987 is cheaper now than ever and you should just forget about worries on depreciation, globally it will be years before people can afford to discriminate against purely colour and have anymore effect effect on price versus car in current markets.condition is still a key elelement or should be when buying any Porsche? good luck ! I've got an Arctic Silver Boxster - the first non-red sports car I've owned. My thoughts... go red. They're all silver, it's boring. The arguement about re-sale values is totally flawed for two very clear reasons: 1) Presumably you'll also pay less when you buy it, so in percentage terms you are fine - effectively you get more car for your money in the first place and it's the colour you want, 2) Who on earth can predict with any certainty what re-sale values are going to be in a couple of years compared with todays market price. Whatever anyone says, the bottom has fallen out of the used Porsche market and if you are a buyer you are laughing at the moment.

Just changed from a 53 plate 986S in speed yellow to a 2007 987S in guards red - both look fantastic but I still love my speed yellow - it'll just take a bit of getting used to - please don't be boring and get a black or silver one (sorry black or silver owners), there's just so many of them.

In reality, the overall spec, condition, mileage and service history of the car will determine the resale potential and selling price. If it's a stock colour, as opposed to a special order Peppermint Green or Poncy Pink, colour will have little effect on the selling price. My Boxster had its warranty inspection earlier this week and, unprompted, two of the staff at the OPC commented on just how good Boxsters look in Guards Red. We talked about values and colour and it seems silver and greys are loosing their appeal for the UK market. The UK market is apparently now awash with mass market cars in metallic silver. UK buyers (there are some still about it seems) are reacting against this and becoming more adventurous in their choice of colour for new cars. Alan.

Very true, recently px'ed my Guards Red 997S for a good price - colour certainly not an issue with the dealer. Look at the showroom floor and the colours really do stand out against a sea of greys, silvers and blacks. (Having said that we have a basalt KN and a Seal Grey Cayman has joined the ranks at home!)

I've got a guards red Boxster and I love the fact that it's a bit different. We're looking at getting an S4 Avant as the family wagon and more and more of the new ones are coming up red... it's definitely the new silver! As for resale I think it may be tilting the other way: as there are so many silver cars out there people are spoilt for choice and supply vs demand will drive down the prices. If you're looking for a nice red one then choice is limited and when a good one comes up you'll want to go for it in case you wait months for another one to come up! Cheers, L*

Well i decided it was time to take the bull by the horns and get noticed. So i am now the proud owner (well..........me and porsche finance) of a bright red 07' 987. Its fantastic, really stands out from the crowd. I definitely got tied up in the slightly boring silver mode although my 986 was a great car, with only 31K on the clock. Definitely made the right decision. [:D]

Should have gone for Speed Yellow that way you will really be noticed !! Red is still a good choice looks good in the Boxster many happy miles in your new car

Already racking up the miles. Picked it up at PC Glasgow. Good guys up there. Nice drive back. Glad i went for it! Thanks for feedback
