Boxster Digital Speedometer

The light has gone out on my digtal speedo (1997 Boxster 2.5), I assume a bulb has gone. Can anyone tell me how to change the bulb without paying an OPC?

Each of the 3 LCD displays has it's own bulb. But you have to remove the instument cluster to replace it as it is in the back of the cluster.

Porsche/VDO went to LEDs in 2001.

Thanks for the reply, but how do I remove the instrument cluster? It does not seem very obvious.

I'm probably outing myself as a fool here... but... any chance for a burnt out fuse that could be the culprit and can simply be replaced?

There are about 20 bulbs in the cluster but only 1 fuse for the entire cluster.

Pry off the the button for the emergency blinkers and the round cell phone grill and behind each you will see a T20 screw that you remove. Then lift the entire cluster up. It will make a lot of noise like you are breaking something - that is just the clips that hold it down releasing. Then put a towel under it so the clips will not damage your dash.

The cluster has 3 size bulbs. The LCD uses 1.5 watts and has a tan holder. There is a yellow line to each of the LCD bulbs.

I have been told you can buy the bulbs from BMW or Volvo because they also use a VDO cluster.

Tool Pants (we call them Tool Trousers [:D] BTW),

Never needed your help (touch wood) but I thought I still say: You are an asset to this forum; always ready with an exact practical reply. A walking, writing Porsche parts encyclopedia.

Thanks!
