Boxster Drivers!!

Hi,

Question:- why are boxster drivers so miserable!!![8|] they never wave back is it because there hands are stuck to the wheel??? or are they all so angry that a 944 has just passed them in a cloud of rubber[:D]. They are not the elite what ever they think. If I am in my 964 it's no problem because I don't slow down so they don't even see me![;)]

Because (in common with most new Porkers) the minority are bought by enthusiasts * which is the inverse of the older cars.

My wife's cousin was looking at an 18month old 996 the other month. "I've never been into cars, but I fancy this. Just so I've owned a Porsche ~ another "done it" to tick off the list". He eventually decided against it and got an A4 cab 1.8T [8|]

Many wouldn't even know what a 944 was. [&:] *

Strangely I got ignored by a 968 the other day [:'(]

*blatant sweeping generalisation

I got a bit of flaming last time I said this (though I honestly don't know why).[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]90% of Boxster owners bought the car because it looked nice. They could just as easily have bought a BMW Z3 or Z4 or an SLK, or even a TT. They possibly like the idea it says Porsche on the front because they think it's a cut above BMW, Mercedes and Audi badges but they don't know anything about Porsche or the other models available. Their next car is as likely to be a 4x4 as another sportscar and I imagine they have zero brand loyalty. They also don't seem to know how to put the roof down [;)][FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Now I'm prepared to be flamed again but before any of you Boxster owners do so let me just say that simply by having found this forum and signed up to it I suggest you are clearly an enthusiast and hence not in the category I am talking about above. You are in the minority of Boxster owners though and I think I am being very generous suggesting you number even 1 in 10. It isn't your fault that the car you chose is primarily bought by poseurs.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Porsches are now are now so common on the road that you would suffer repetative strain injuries if you waved everytime you saw one.

I only wave, or make a gesture of approval, if I see a really nice 'classic' Porsche.

I agree.
And bear in mind that 10-15 years ago the same was true of the 964 and 944.
Most 944 owners would not have thier fantastic car to drive around in now, if it was not for the late 80's yuppie boom where Porsche sales went through the roof because every 5-minute-wonder stock-broker etc HAD to have a Poorsccch (an' look at moi wad!!)
By definition the older cars are owned by enthusiasts - otherwise they would be driving around in something modern that costs similar money (or at least that was true 5 years ago whn I had mine).
Without that 90% of non-enthusiast owners there will not be a nice selection of 10 year old cars for future enthusiasts to own.

(And it would be nice if 944's waved back to me - rather than looking at me in suprise or ignoring me... You see - it happens to us all...)

But sooooooooooooooooo slow!!!

They only bolted a turbo onto the 944 so it would be so quick that nobody would have to see it for too long![8D]

Boxster owners are the safest Porsche drivers..... They never take their hands off the wheel ... To wave !!

Ah ha I see my post has increased the input into this forum a little[:D] It was not my intention to tar all boxster drivers with the same brush.....................however if the cap fits etc!!! It is a shame that the car in question has become so common both on the road and in autotrader[:)] me wonders why[8|] is it because all the posers are now bored? or is it that they have realised that with one's roof down one's hair gets a trifle messy (Laughs very loud then runs for cover!!) Obviously members of this Club are different (Had to add this otherwise in fear of my life[:D] giggle) and are enthusiasts of the car & Porsche in general but to be brutally honest in my opinion the ONLY Porsche is a 911. I only drive my 944S to wiz past boxster drivers anyway..........fancy being beaten by a car that's 18 years old!!! BIG LAUGH this time[:D] and now leaving the country for my own safety[:D][:D][:D].

I've seen 5 boxsters in 48 hours. All were waved at, and absolutely no reply. But, I have good reasons why they didn't.

One was too busy chatting with the bloke next to him and not actually looking at the road.
Two were on the phone (well you can't drive, hold a phone AND wave! [])
One woman was actually doing her lippy in the rear view mirror (I kid you not!)
and one, well, I guess he was just a miserable git.

I guess I won't stop trying to be a little sociable, but I'll probably end up driving off the road in surprise when I get a return wave!

I was a little suprised the other day - a guy with a brand new 997 Cab decided to have a little look at my car whilst waiting at the lights, nods of heads were exchanged rather than waves.
My wife (yes I let her drive it), whilst waiting at the lights also, had a guy wind down his window and noted how nice the car was.

[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]A sentiment that might get a fair bit of support among Club members, except the example you're talking about has an old lady's gearbox. Never mind the only proper Porsche being a 911, the only proper 911 has a clutch.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]It's debatable if there has ever been a decent clutchless transmission worthy of a true sportscar yet productionised, but there is no argument that there hadn't been 12+ years ago.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]

The large scale industrial knowledge & abilities of VAG clearly finds itself in the overall build quality of our rock-solid 944s.
Thank God VAG did not let Porsche build the 944 otherwise they'd all be completely worn out by now or would have rusted to the ground.

As for Boxsters ... well, no matter the badge they're just as boring as all those other so called "state of the art" modern cars, aren't they ? [:)]

Try the same test in 4 weeks time around Brands Hatch and you'll get a much better response because all the true Porsche nuts will be out on the roads in Kent [:)]

Make sure that no one waves when we try to break the world record on Monday morning as the track is busy enough without us all swerving around []
