Boxster Engine Replacement

Just a little note for anyone who believes boxster engines are infallible....my MY03 2.7 Boxster suffered a complete and catastrophic engine failure a few weeks ago. Don't know why, but by all accounts the insides were completely mangled. Just a bit of a clunking noise, engine died and had to free-wheel off the road and call Porsche-Assist.

Since then the engine has been completely replaced by Porsche under warranty. I was without the car for 2 weeks from breakdown to receiving it back with the new engine.

The OPC themselves, apart from getting off to a slow start, were good and sorted it all out with minimal involvement from me, including reasonable courtesy car.

However, here's my grief:

The warranty does NOT get extended to cover the new engine. I would have expected for such a major fault that the parts (i.e. engine) would be covered for at least a full year, but apparently any parts replaced during the warranty period are only covered until the end of the warranty, and I was encouraged to extend the warranty at my cost when it runs out. Now, I have 9 months left of original warranty, so while very disappointed in this policy, it's only a few months I'm losing, but was informed that if it happened 3 days before the end of the warranty period, the new engine would only be covered for 3 days.

Piss poor if you ask me!
