Boxster first service Costs

Hi All,

I have an 08 Boxster 2.7 which is due for it's first service (early due to me going overseas when it is due) including brake fluid change . With PCGB parts discount and VAT we have arrived at £500 with my local OPC after some haggling. Is this price any good or should I be aiming for better?

Many thanks

Jase.

I guess you will know when Porsche republish their fixed price service costs on the Porsche UK web pages. I belive they are missing at the moment to be updated with the new VAT rate. As you got a deal below the standard rates you are doing well, but of course another OPC may be willing to go lower. You will only know if you ask them as well and the additional distance does not make it pointless.

Hi - I had my first service in October - 2.7 like yours - total bill was £2383.95.
Breakdown - £216, service:
£120, brake fluid change:
£30, air con de-odourize
£180, 111 point check,
£1505, extended warranty 2 yrs(no VAT)
£123, engine oil
£100 approx parts incl b. fluid, screen wash, oil filter, pollen filter, wiper blades
£114.65 VAT

plus new set Michelin N4 at £875 - I'd done 20k miles & the rears were getting a bit thin.

No one said Porsches were cheap to run!!

But yes, £500 looks a good deal.

well that's good to hear. My car is going into storage for 6 - 12 mths so I'm not going for the extended warranty as the ultimate destination is Oz!

Wow!
I can just about live with £500 for a service, which is what I paid to have my previous 997's first service, but £2,383 is off the Richter scale in my book!
Sure, its a performance car and all that, but I don't really buy this 'changing the brake fluid' lark or 'de-odourising' the air-con!
Brake fluid in cars has been around for an awfully long time and I hadn't noticed that it had acquired a sudden propensity to 'go off' every two years?
Guess I am going to have to make a decision about extended warranty when my Boxster goes in for its first service in May, but up until now, I have perhaps unwisely viewed these sort of insurance products as a complete con which in no way should be necessary on a quality car in normal use.
Unless that is, of course, you know differently!!!!

Never believe the so called 'fixed price costs' - the OPC will always find ways of notching up the bill a bob or two so be prepared! With normal extended service intervals they will also play on the 'wearing out before next service ploy' on the basis that you won't want to return before the next due date, so consumables like tyres may well be suggested for early replacement when actually there is a fair amount of wear left in them.

As for the extended warranty, it worked for me with my 986, when the RMS needed doing but otherwise (apart from breakdown cover) was money not well spent! Personally I would 'self-insure', that is place an equivalent monthly amount in a dedicated savings account and build up the balance month by month. If it's needed then the cash is available; if not, then you can spend it on the next motor.

Yes, I'll be looking at for any BS! I've only done 8,800 miles so would be gobsmacked if anything else is required!!

My Boxster (2005 987S) had a service (36k miles and four years old) last September. I enquired at my OPC about the cost before booking it in. "Approximately £500 for the four year major service" I was told. Sure enough the final bill was £565. However, what I wasn't told was that the £500 didn't included any "recommended" services at four years old. I was pretty much told my car would be a death trap if I didn't have the brake fluid changed, new spark plugs, airbag checked and tyre sealant changed. Can't remember the individual prices but these "recommended" services would have added another £650 to the overall bill... Beware!
