I have conflicting advice on fitting a hard top to my 987/Gen 2 Boxster.

Can the 986 fit?
Must it be a top for the Gen 2?
Can any Boxster hard top fit?

Anyone have the right one for sale!?

Thanks,
Graham.

986 hardtop does not fit 987. 987 hardtops are pretty rare, hardly anyone bought them compared to 986. I had one on my 986 facelift, and although I used it in the winter (my car was a daily driver), I don't miss it on my 981 and wouldn't have bothered on a 987.

I have one and use it every winter so I'm in favour esp if the car sits outside ( and you have space to store it when not in use - it's bulky)

i bought a padded case and a trolley. Use the former but hoist the roof into my garage roofspace

Thanks for the comments back.

The 987 I have is a Gen 2.
Is the fitting mechanism different on the Gen 1 compared to the Gen 2?
Thus, if I buy a gen 1 987 will it fit my Gen 2 once I have the right fitting kit?

Yes it will
the gen 987 hardtop fits gen2 but you may need different fitting kit
i got my opc to install the fitting kit before going up north to collect my hardtop which I paid £800 for I think( it was a few years ago)
but it was unnecessary I think and meant on the occasional lovely winter day I couldn't put the roof down
waste of time in my book which is why I sold it 2 yrs later!!
