New member
Ive sold my 964 and fancy buying a Boxster.
I would like information as to the specs of the cars, what to look out for (common faults etc), and a list of boxster websites - forums and basically anything/anywhere that will assist me in my search.
Thanks in advance

Doesnt anyone know about Boxsters here [;)]

Im looking at an Boxster S, 2000 ' W' this PM, silver with black leather..........come one peeps.
What am i looking for.......help me out.
What should it have and what is add ons to look for

Well the S has most of the options you would want (ie air con and leather) but you might want full leather on a 2000 model, the plastics are not as good as the MY01 and above (although they' re not bad). Look for oil leaks (particularly the rear main seal) and too much smoking from the exhausts (you' re used to flat sixes so you know about smoking at startup). Another thing I look for is damage on the front skirt at the bottom to look for bottoming. Check the discs for corrosion and the wheel nuts..... Ummmm - can' t think of anything else! I guess poor resprays for stone chips....

Elliot what' s your budget? Look for the best low mileage FPSH example you can find. Sod the extras a base " S" is pretty well specced anyway and extras to look for are a personal taste thing so you decide for yourself......

Me I would want a low mileage (quite common and easy to find) lower spec car for my money rather than a higher miles higher spec example.....

Buying 2nd hand I am sure you have done it enough times to know what' s what and if you don' t know already the Boxster has very few issues and is still after 7 years the best all round sports car one can buy.

Good luck with the fun of chasing down that dream machine [8D]

Elliot,

you have some info here, you are welcome to give me call for furher details.

Another thing I would add is check condition of hood and plastic screen (obvious, I know) but v. expensive to replace.

Even though Boxsters are very reliable, I recomend taking out Porsche extended warranty to cut down on nasty surprises, though make sure you read the small print.

also try Dean' s Boxa.net http://www.boxa.net/

Hi Elliot,
great choice the " S" is a superb car. a few thoughts that I hope will be of help.......
Because you are looking to buy S/H you should be lucky enough to get a higher spec car for " not a lot more" , so it' s worth hunting out one with extra goodies !
Extra must haves are......sound pack (or Bose upgrade) & multi-play CD the standard stereo is pretty poor, 18" inch wheels make the car look far better although they do increase grip, if you like to slide the car around this may not suit you. Be aware that the standard interior (dash & doors) looks rather plasticy, you can get away with it in black but other colours can look rather cheap on what was a ÂŁ40k car . Full leather looks far nicer (black included) but was an expensive extra new (about ÂŁ2.6k !!). wind stop (yes this is an extra).........................................................beyond this it' s down to taste but Sports Seats (heated is nice), alloy handbrake & gear lever, cruise control & traction control/PSM are all desirable & PCM (Sat Nav) is the current " in thing " for future re-sale, apparently it is now a must have for OPC' s buying 996' s. Clear updated front & rear lenses also make the car look more " up to date" !!! Obviously you will always compromise on spec, buying S/H but that extra value creeps in.
For your info Porsche introduced some upgrades for the 01 model year (prior to the facelift) this included the useful facility of being able to open both boots electronically & via the remote key fob, may be worth trying for one of these ?
As I have said elsewhere, make sure you get an OPC check over, also check the VIN with Porsche HQ & ENSURE it is C16 Uk spec. we have seen many Boxters that aren' t , Once you have found the right car get it valued by an OPC buyer for a true figure of it' s trade value!!!
Probably all stuff you have thought of yourself, but hope some of the above proves of use. Let us know how you get on.

Congratulations Elliot on your new toy, look great, what goodies has it got (aside from that creamy 3.2 litre engine, 6speed box & 996 carrera spec brakes !!) ???

I got the car yesterday at 1.30pm and Ive spent around 12 hours cleaning it upto now !
I think it used to belong to a glitter/card salesman as it was sprinkled in every nook and cranny possible, both boots, carpets, ashtray, back shelf etc.........not looked at the engine yet but ?? []
It certainly doesnt like to lift of the mats much.

Its had a full hoover, inside wash and polish, leather clean and treat, washed outside and then clayed and then a copeous dose of the old carnauba, its getting to look the part. Wheels need to come of and get a good clean up to remove tar and burnt on brake dust

Well ive been for a little blast and i think the car is fab, does the engine revs ever run out ? []
The only thing i m finding a little strange is having such a short 1st gear, I suppose it takes time from the longer 964 1st....but its much easier to drive in traffic.

Extras........well not really sure what a 2000my SHOULD have but its got the grey leather sports seats, speaker upgrades, computer i think is standard, i dont know yet as im still studying.
And the brakes are awsome [:D] and look good in red of course....

Does anyone have a spare 2000 MY Boxster/S brochure for sale or swap ? I have the latest GT3 Mk2 brochure for swapsies if you wish...........

Nice Elliot!

The computer is still not standard! And was a silly price on MY2000...

Are you bringing it along on Sunday (Drive the roads of Sussex) to show it off?

Elliot,

I've got a spare prestine brochure and price list for the 2000my from the days when I bought W888BOX.

E-mail your address and I'll put it in the post.

I've also got W888BOX on retention if your interested.

Regards

Hi Elliot

I have the hard back brochure and the price list, which would make you laugh now as the prices are so much cheaper today [8D]

Email your address if you want either or both

Robert
