Boxster key - remote not working

Hi all

I have two keys for my new (1999) Boxster. The remote functions work from one and not the other. Apparently the remote functions didn't work for either until one of the keys was used to unlock the car manually, then the key was inserted into the ignition and the ignition was turned on while holding the central locking button for 20 seconds. Then the ignition was turned off and apparently the remote functions on the key then worked. The remote functions do indeed work, but I've tried that routine on the second key and it does nothing. Also changed the battery and then tried again, still nothing. Tried the insert battery upside down trick, tried the trick in the manual, nothing is getting the remote functions to work on the second key. It does though unlock the car manually and start the engine, so it is the right key. Help?

Hi,
I have watched this post for some time waiting for one of the Tech Gurus/Boffins to pitch in, in the Boxster register we had a similar query from a member last week so I'll give you similar advice.
I would say that both keys are for your car as they work the igniton so both keys are "recognised" by the car.
To find out why the second key does not opertate the remote you will need to get someone who can read the diagnostic fault codes, that will be your local OPC then. However if you get in touch with your local regional secretary (details in Porsche Post) or ask locally or look for adverts in any Porsche related publication. You may be pointed in the direction of a local independent who can read OBD codes not just ECM codes who could then advise where the fault is.
Off the top of my head I would say that the fault is probably with the key. An OPC would charge about £80 to £110 to supply and programme a new key transmitter, a new key blade is extra.
Let us know how you get on.
