Cann someone please help me here, I have received

good morning,
I am not a member of your club but am going to join as I have only just seen about your club. I wonder if you could advise me of anyone in the swansea area who deals with boxsters. I bought a 2004 boxster 2.7 last october. I have a problem where it does not hold its charge. I have fitted a new battery but it has not made any difference. Yesyerday I went for a 15 mile drive and stopped for 45 mins and when I tried to restart the car it was dead. I do not know any where in swansea I can take it so I am up for suggestions.
many thanks

Hi Tim,

I'm not local so can't help with a local specialist but it sounds as though you have a very serious current drain due to a short in the system if the battery is discharging so rapidly. If there's nothing obvious, the only way to find the fault is to put an ammeter in the line and start pulling fuses to try to determine the source of the fault. I would guess that the parasitic drain on the system with the ignition off should be around 50 mA if everything is working properly.

You can always check that the battery is being charged by connecting a voltmeter across the battery when the engine is idling - the voltage should be about 13.5 to 14.5 volts. If it's lower then there's a problem with the alternator.

I would think that any competent auto electrician should be able to help.
