Boxster Order

On the verge of signing an order for a new 987 2.7 for my wife. Still bothered about depreciation (and the voice of reason is telling me to wait six months as secondhand prices will be more realistic). Trying to keep the price sensible have narrowed options down to 18" Cayman S wheels, met paint (midnight blue or arctic silver), hardtop, partial leather (in blue if we go for the silver, with blue soft top), Porsche sound package, CD changer and heated seats. Was thinking about climate control (but now tending to think not worth it) and park assist (wife keen - I think it's a waste).

I'm unlikely to get anything off the car but am intending to shop around as will probably be looking to part ex her current car and that's the element I can probably work away at.

Any thoughts from those that have taken the plunge?

I would try the Ads as there is a lot about with a good savings try Pistonheads and Auto Trader around where you live ,Px might be a problem but with a private deal you could reduce the Px,and remember you still have at least 1 yrs warranty on a second hand car so the OPC is giving you nothing more .

I would advise against the auto climate control and hard top and suggest you go for park assist. The sports steering wheel is fantastic - a real tactile treat compared to the smooth standard item.

Would second the opinion of the others and see what exists used, or at least what the dealer network has new for immediate delivery as this would constitute a big saving. This option wasn't available to me when I bought last year as there were practically none on the used market.

Having said all of this, you've got to consider other factors such as how long you're going to keep it and how important exactly your spec is going to be to you.

Whatever you do, you won't be disappointed - this is the most fantastic car I've owned!

I guess we are all different aren't we.

Blue Leather and soft top looks a bit "trying too hard" to me, which you don't need to do in a Porsche. Leave that to Y reg Megane Convertibles and Go for Black!

I suppose it depends where you drive and park, but I find the park assist really useful.

Best of luck with the trade in. When I tried to trade my BMW worth £5K trade for a new Boxster I was offered £3K! In the end I sold privately for £5K on auto trader.

Hard top not really necessary, and a bloomin pain in the summer months when it comes to storing it (even with a double garage)

Air con - not sure its worht it, but i've seen a few reports that the std unit isn't as cold as the climate, although i see no reason why

Rear Park - cheaper than a repair to the rear bumper, and the new sensors are near enough invisible.

Think heated seats are brilliant, and essential for top down on colder mornings. Sports steering wheel at £142 is THE bargain option, SO much nicer to hold and use.
