Boxster ordered - soft top cleaning advice

Well, as my mid life crisis has reached fever pitch I ordered a 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 PDK. Sold my 981 Cayman S PDK to Northway (Aqua Blue) if anyone is looking for one.

Although it's a (very) long wait until it arrives, I did a bit of searching on shampoo and waterproofers / protectors for the roof. It seems there are a lot of products to choose from. Any advice?

Until I get a new house (which might be before the car turns up at this rate) it will be kept outside, but I have ordered an external cover and will probably store in winter at a friends place - not that I've mentioned that to him yet!

Thanks

Olly.

17 years of convertible ownership and I have only ever used clean water on my roof. Never needed to proof it. They have a water proof membrane underneath the outer layer. Keep it clean to prevent wear marks when it rubs on itself when down. Other than that. just hose and scrub with a sponge.

many like the beading of o waterproofed roof. Personally, not my thing. coupke of cars ago (Audi) car got a complimentary roof clean at the stealers once to say sorry for a mistake they made, they used an auto glym kit. Looked alright but nothing amazing.

I would be more worried about putting random snake oil chemicals on my car To be honest. But that’s just me.

Obviously being new it won't need cleaning straight off but if you reproof it use Fabsil Gold
It's what I use on our roofs or customers cars.
I find it beads more than others.

Fabsil Gold as recommended by Cliff. Absoutely brilliant product and beads well. Much better product than Autoglym which I used previously.

I have always tended to use Auto Glym but only because better the devil you know but it may not be the best as stated above.

Hope you enjoy the car when you finally get your hands on it. I collected mine, a GTS 4.0 PDK, the same as you just four weeks ago. The wait time was the only I am unhappy with up to know.

Have a look at G-Techniq I1 smart fabric.

it’s used by lots of detailer including the detailing God himself, Jim White.
