Boxster Purchase questions

Hi just new to the forum and I was wondering could anyone give me advice on buying a used boxster.

Im looking at a 98-99 - 2.5 or 2.7 depending on price + extras, condition etc.

Does anyone have the stats on the 2.5? BHP/tq figs? What's the difference performance wise between the two?

The 2.7 looks good on paper but I will prob have to wait 6 months before I can afford one with a decent spec.

Could I also ask about the soft top/hardtop options, is it possible to fit the hard top to a soft-top convertible?

What kind of money do hardtops go for aftermarket?

Any know problems in 98 models? Ive been reading of blown engines and the likes on this forum [:-] is this common in the older models?

Obviously FSH over anything else but what options should I be looking out for? Do all the soft tops have the electric roof?

Hi Boxsterboy,
Hope this helps....

Boxster 2.5 bhp 205 torque 180 0-60 7.0 ('97-'99)
Boxster 2.7 bhp 220 torque 192 0-60 6.6('99-'02)
(Figures from GT Purely Porsche)
You can fit hardtops to all Boxsters, cost is around £1,400 painted (Jasmine-motorsport.co.uk). All Boxsters have electrically operated roofs.
At a minimum you should be looking for Lux Pack and 17 inch alloys.

My 2.5 with FPSH is for sale if you're interested...

Good luck!

Thankfully these problems are very rare but if it goes and you have no warranty you'll get little assistance from Porsche.

JCB..

Sweet car mate if I was living in the Uk I would be interested, unfortunately Im in Ireland,

Hi,

2.5 is a little sluggish is left wanting. Go for 2.7 min or wait for the prices on the 3.2 to drop when the new model is 6 to 12 months old.

I have 3.2 and will be selling next april 2005

Good luck

Yeah but VRT would be about 10grand euro on it bringing it in - makes me sick to think about it [:'(]

Ill be spending in the region of £27 sterling on the same car in Ireland 98-99 and that's prob not even from a dealership ! Ive seen the same cars in Germany for 16 grand euro!

Im very tempted to move country next yr and work abroad, anyone know the price of boxsters in Aus?
