Boxster radio system and alarm

hi there,

does anyone know if those two are related ? when i lock my car the horn screams once indicating that something is open, but nothing is. does anyone know where to look for ? from the factory they told me that this had to do with changing the original radio sytem, but this was happening with original stereo as well!!!!they made me mad and hence i left from the factory but still have the problem..thank you

Depend what you mean when you say the horns screams I am no expert but I beleive if the centre arm rest is not locked down the alarm will sound once, that also goes for the bonnet and boot as far as I know

As you say, the radio also has a sensor - this is actually a piece of plastic that prevents a contact from "making" with the radio body. If it does it assumes the radio is being stolen and so the alarm...
The cure is to put a piece of tape on the radio body in the appropriate place.

Bonnet, boot, armrest, radio, door ajar... these all give a single beep of the car horn.

The alarm however is a rather different sound![]

My 10pence worth had the single beep tonight on locking, after putting video camera in the boots to check lights were going out (long story for another day) stumbled across arm rest not fully pressed down (now fully down and locked). After this no more beeps on locking the car.
Although I've only had the 986 for a week it does appear to need more TLC than the 987 I had, but with it comes a little more character (oops what have I started).

cheers

Paul

Hope your alarm is equally easy to cure.

The factory 22 radio has a plastic insulator on the side for the alarm contact. Aftermarket radios do not have this insulator so you get a single beep when you set the alarm to warn you that the radio is not protected. You can mimic this insulator with a piece of tape on the side of the aftermarket radio.

What I don't get is you said you had the single beep with the factory radio, so the problem must be elsewhere. If the microwsitch for the front trunk latch or the storage box is bad then you will also get a single beep.

Brilliant! I have had this bloody beeping for about 9 months now. All the windows, doors, boots, bonnets, cubbyholes were definitely closed but the beep remained. It only started when I changed the radio (though I hadnt made the connection until now). So I think this is the problem. AT LAST YEY!!!

Mark - you are a LEGEND!!

so i guess a lot of you had this problem...and unforunately after having checked all of the abpve i still have the problem... :(((

Open the front trunk and the light inside the trunk should be on. Get a screwdriver and close the latch all the way while the trunk lid is still open, and the light should go out once the latch is closed. Once you have done this set the alarm and report back if there is a single beep from the alarm horn.

What model year do you have? If you have a model year 2000 then what month was it made?

mine is an s model of 2002!!!i checked the original stereo system and you won't believe it !!! the plastic was missing !!!! so i had to unistall my new 2 din radio (quite difficult !!!) and checked while being in the car what would happen when i would attach a plastic on a iron little thing i found !!! the alarm didn't make that annoying beep anymore !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :))))))))))))) and when i realeased the plastic thing the alrm went on !(not just a beep) !!! THANK YOU GUYS !!!!! i have had this problem quite a long time now !!!! i really apreciate your help. and good thing others found a solution as well :) !!!!!!!!!!!

To be fair, I'm pretty sure I picked this information up years and years ago (before the club forum started up) from Jeff (Tool Pants) [:)]

Glad it helped, and glad that Jean_Paul has also fixed it now [8D]

Didn't even think to have you check if the plastic insulator was missing from the original radio.

Rather than insulating the alarm contact you could have disconnected the wire to the alarm contact, and then tape the end of the wire so it cannot ground to the car.

For others. There is a microswitch on the front trunk latch. The microswitch is for the trunk light and the alarm system. If the switch goes bad then the light will not go out and the alarm system thinks something is open, causing a single beep when you set the alarm. Porsche changed the design of the switch because of this problem during the middle of model year 2000 production, which is why I asked for you production info.
