Boxster Residuals !

New member
I am currently trying to sell my 2006 3.2 S with not much success.

People in the trade say that Boxster residuals have taken a hammering of late, with loads on the market.
Has anyone else found this to be the case ?

What would you say is a realistic price for a private sale on my car. Spec as follows :
06 Plate, 6750 Miles, PCM/ Sat Nav, Phone Module, 19'' Sport Design Alloys, Coloured Wheel Centre Set, Sports Crono Plus, Short Shift, Seal Grey & Stone Grey Interior, Balance of Warranty.

OPC said £28k !! Trade in - (Bought it from same Dealer 14 months ago for £40k)

I thought the Boxster had one of the lowest & best depeciation figures.

Well that's what you get for asking an OPC what they'll buy it for..they only have one price...the pants down price.
They will want to make 5k on it, so you're best off selling privately or going to another indi like 911Virgin, RSJ et al

Reality is that the market is saturated with cars ,between PH and Auto trader alone there are 1.600 Boxsters advertised Porsche are not alone any premium brand is taking a hit to many cars not enough buyers spells poor residuals
I think that in the open market place you will strugle to get £30k I know that is not what you want to hear but it is fact ,my car has dropped £3k since I bought it July 07 sorry you just have to pull your pants up and live with the pain[:D][:D]

Hello join the club, traded in my 06 Boxster S with 10K of extras before Christmas 28K only. The OPC sold it within days for £34K I would have never of got near that price with a private sale.

at opc this morning a box s 05 on for 34k-probably gave the poor sod selling it 25k
unfortunately indi`s not much better-i was offered 35k by both 911 and opc when sold my 996
buyers market
hold onto it!

It's not unique to Boxsters - most of the market is the same and, at the top end, it can be far worse. It does tend to be most punitive to owners who buy new, high spec prestige cars and then sell them after a relatively short period.

It's a shame because the colour spec and mileage of your car should be very desirable. And, in a few months time, demand could pick up.

Depreciation is not the difference between original purchase price and the part exchange price; rather it is the difference between the original purchase price and the price for which it is resold! If you use the latter you'll find that the Boxster and Mini stand up extremely well as the lowest depreciating cars.

And no, I'm not a dealer or trader - just someone who sought professional advice on the subject.

The laws of Ecconomics, supply and demand in this case, like the laws of Physics, are difficult to overcome. Porshce haven't fitted a button that does either yet.

I have decided to keep mine, do some stuff to it, and continue to enjoy it. 2nd hand value isn't a straight line to zero, so there will come a time when it will be the right price for a private sale, and I'll trade up.

I think generally people are being a bit more cautious with their hard earned cash at the moment. This is reflected in the housing market. The media is also very good at painting a gloomy picture of the state of the economy!!! The reduction of interest rates this week may help a little.

it may well be worth keeping these cars and running them into the ground ! - what sort of mileage can be expected ??? be pleased to hear your views , regards

I'm trying to sell my 2007 Boxster S at the moment. Bought new for £46,000 11 months ago. Dealer just offered me £32,000 for trade-in.
I guess they'll punt it out for £37,000 so pop over to

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/353567.htm

and pick up a bargain!

Dealer would be punting it at more like £39999.00 if there current stocks are anything to go by [&o]

Is there something amiss with these cars that you guys are selling your cars after 11 months or 14 months? And if many owners do the same things, which looking through the approved used suggests they do, then why are you surprised that residuals are struggling; Porsche build to NEW demand not second hand.

Sorry if that seems a bit blunt, but I don't see how these issues are not related.

Depreciation happens when you sell. so don't. Porsche market like all manufacturers to make you think you are missing something if you don't get the latest model. You are missing some small improvement or cosmetic change but will also miss a large chunk of cash. If you have the cash and want to spend it then do so. Otherwise enjoy your 'old' model for a while.

Good choice slapshot, you won't regret it. About the residuals though, we all went through this on the coupe forum. Some cried about the loss, it's only a loss if you sell, don't sell enjoy the car. Whatever it is.

Interesting to hear how the depreciation per year stacks up ....bet it looks quite good. What do you reckon your car is worth after 7 years?.

I've no idea and as I have no plans to ever sell it that will be a question for my son when he inherits it!
