Boxster Roof Squeek

Peter Anthony

New member
Hello everyone. My boxster roof has developed a squeek on the drivers side, just by my ear. I have tried spraying some silicone on the joints that I can see but it does not help. I think it time to take it to someone who understands convertible roofs and knows there way around them, hopefully it just needs some adjustment. I live to the west of Cambridge so ideally a coachtrimmer/specialist anywhere around Cambridge would be ideal.
Can anyone help please?
Peter

I know of one out Newmarket area that is it very good - sorry, I know thats no west - either tell me to go west, or request further details.

I went today to Burwell, unfortunately Ian was unable to help.I then went to Cambridge OPC, ((at this point I have to say I have had nothing but help from them on the couple of occasions I have visited, in contrast to some horror stories on the main forums(or is it fora?) about other OPC's. Credit when credit is due folks!)) Anyway, I asked the service desk if the parts dept had any magic solution to cure squeaks in a Boxster Hood. The lady said she would ask one of the mechanics and mentioned Gumiflegdge, at which point I said I understood that was a BMW product, which was acknowledged. The recommendation was Holts silicon and rubber lubricant.
I then went to the BMW dealer and a very helpful parts guy told me Gumifledge had been discontinued about 18 months ago and spent some time searching for a replacement product but couldn't find one.Apparently it was a small bottle and cost about £30!
I will have a go with the Holts tomorrow but surely I cannot be the only Boxster owner with an irritating squeak on one side only that I cannot get a solution to???
Thank you again however for your help.
Regards
Peter

Just to update you. I was successful with the Holts, I managed to get some on what looked like s bit of the mechanicals in the joint as well, and the main squeak stopped. I was then driving on some rough track roads and a multitude of new squeaks appeared all over, but a good application of the Holts on the front seals of the hood, plus the locking/docking pins seems to have solved them. Moral seems to be keep the rubbers clean and lubricated as well as apply lubricant to anything that may rub against another part!

Hi Peter - Glad to here youve got things sorted - and a few more as well as the original squeak!
Will we be seeing your squeaky clean Boxster at the Ferryboat R24 Club night on Wednesday the 8th August?

Rgds John
